Summary

The R&D Intern will work within Dunmore’s R&D department to evaluate, organize, document, and improve laboratory workflows, technical knowledge, test protocols, and product qualification processes.

 

This hands-on, analytical role supports the organization and standardization of technical information and testing frameworks for films and laminates, helping improve access to technical knowledge, consistency of test methods, data traceability, and product qualification.

 

The intern will collaborate with R&D scientists, Quality, Engineering, and other technical partners to support lab modernization, technical data organization, process efficiency, and technical credibility

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Map and document laboratory and technical-information workflows, including material preparation, testing, data recording, qualification documentation, and reporting.
  • Support organization and digitization of R&D technical knowledge by inventorying, classifying, and organizing technical records, test data, trial information, formulations, technical data sheets, and qualification documentation.
  • Review and consolidate existing test methods and protocols for coated and laminated films, identifying duplicate information, conflicting versions, gaps, and missing documentation.
  • Develop and maintain structured testing and qualification frameworks that connect products and applications with requirements, test methods, applicable standards, and supporting evidence.
  • Create and maintain qualification matrices linking tests, specifications, applicable standards, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Support technical data integrity by tracing product-property information to applicable test methods and supporting evidence and identifying outdated, inconsistent, unsupported, or incomplete information for technical review.
  • Support alignment of laboratory and technical documentation with future-state digital systems and knowledge-management processes.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives that improve access to technical information, testing consistency, data traceability, and laboratory efficiency.
  • Document project findings and present recommendations to R&D and appropriate cross-functional partners.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Strong interest in testing, qualification, and process engineering.
  • Coursework or experience in materials, thermodynamics, or aerospace systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI) and basic understanding of lab instrumentation a plus.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.

 

 

Physical Demands - OFFICE / TRAVEL

 

  • Standing/Sitting: 50/50%
  • Walking/Bending/Stooping: 25%
  • Lifting Requirements: 25 pounds
  • Travel by air, rail, auto (5% of time)
  • Work in manufacturing area, QA lab and office areas
  • Exposures - Odors, Fumes, Noise, Chemicals, Temperature, Vision strain, Moving parts.
