About Medicom

Medicom is a leading enterprise imaging software company that solves longstanding interoperability challenges for clinicians, staff, patients, and researchers. Its core platform, Connect, supports diverse enterprise imaging interoperability use cases. These include access to prior and unread imaging studies, point-of-care workflows, patient access to images, orders and results workflows for teleradiology, telestroke and trauma, and cross-institution sharing of digital imaging. Medicom's Network is adopted by over 1,000 US healthcare institutions and backed by leading venture capital firms, such as UPMC Enterprises. Data and insights from the Medicom Connect network drive Medicom's Intellect offering, which helps clinicians and researchers advance patient care and develop new therapies.

About the role

Medicom is hiring an Implementation Specialist to own the technical delivery of our enterprise imaging platform at new customer sites. You will install and configure Connect and ImageX, build the DICOM, HL7, and FHIR interfaces that move imaging data across health systems, and guide customers through configuration, testing, go-live, and network connectivity.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing delivery role. You’ll manage a portfolio of 17–25 active customer projects while supporting 30–40 installs, kickoffs, connection calls, and training sessions each month. You’ll work closely with Project Management, Support, Engineering, Customer Success, and customer IT and imaging teams as the technical expert responsible for getting implementations across the finish line.

What you'll do

  • Install, upgrade, and migrate ImageX across customer Windows Server and virtual environments, ensuring environments meet Medicom infrastructure requirements.
  • Configure Connect, including Spaces, permissions, DICOM locations, AE titles, routing rules, and site-to-site network connections, while maintaining configuration and version discipline across test and production environments.
  • Build, map, and troubleshoot HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and SSO integrations, coordinating application, access, and interface requirements with customer EHR and IT teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve DICOM, HL7, and Windows infrastructure issues using logs and diagnostic tools to identify root cause and determine the appropriate resolution.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues involving firewalls, ports, VPNs, certificates, DNS, proxies, antivirus/endpoint security, disk capacity, and Windows services.
  • Partner with customer IT teams and third-party PACS, VNA, RIS, and EHR vendors to resolve issues across system boundaries, escalating complex issues to Support and Engineering with clear technical documentation.
  • Lead technical kickoffs, standing status calls, working sessions, installations, and customer training with PACS administrators, interface analysts, IT, security, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute test plans, track acceptance criteria, support user acceptance testing, and ensure implementations are ready for production.
  • Lead go-lives and cutovers, including scheduled early-morning, evening, or overnight windows, and provide technical support during the resulting hypercare period.
  • Support migrations from incumbent image exchange platforms, including parallel runs and validation, and partner with Imaging Informatics on clinical end-user training and adoption.
  • Evaluate customer environments for security and connectivity requirements during onboarding, engage Information Security when needed, and ensure customer data and technical information are handled in accordance with HIPAA and Medicom security practices.
  • Maintain accurate project and customer records, including status, tasks, time, Salesforce details, implementation documentation, and knowledge gained during customer engagements.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of healthcare IT experience with hands-on responsibility for PACS, VNA, RIS, EHR, or related imaging systems in a vendor, health system, or imaging center environment.
  • 2+ years of production experience configuring and troubleshooting DICOM and HL7 v2 interfaces, with the ability to independently interpret HL7 messages and DICOM associations to identify issues.
  • Working knowledge of imaging workflows across radiology, cardiology, and oncology; experience with additional specialties such as urology, ambulatory imaging, or federal health is a plus.
  • Strong Windows Server and network troubleshooting skills, including ports, firewalls, VPNs, certificates, DNS, and endpoint security.
  • Proven ability to manage 15+ concurrent customer engagements while maintaining strong documentation, communication, and follow-through.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions with hospital IT, security, PACS, and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to support scheduled early-morning and occasional evening or overnight cutover windows during go-live periods. This role does not have an on-call rotation.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and sound judgment when working with technical data or diagnostics that may contain protected health information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with an interface engine, particularly Mirth Connect / NextGen Connect.
  • Epic integration experience, including Interconnect, Showroom Connection Hub, vendor services, or application provisioning.
  • Experience supporting VA or federal health systems, including VistA or multi-site VISN programs.
  • Experience migrating customers from a competing image exchange platform.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or TaskRay or another project delivery platform.
  • Relevant certifications such as NextGen Certified Professional in Mirth Connect, ARRT, CIIP, or an AWS foundational certification.

What We Do

We created the first federated health information network: a powerful platform that connects disparate data silos through a single interface. The value of a health information network is dependent on the willing participation of providers, hospitals, and imaging centers in a community. While technology can support the adoption of health information networks — from large hospitals and IDNs to private practices alike — the technology on its own has little to no value. Many medical image sharing solutions and health information networks are implemented within an organization’s walls, without considering how to support and connect providers in the community. Medicom has taken the unique approach to better serve providers by building health information networks with service and support organizations that are experts on their local communities. These service and support organizations provide local resources to hospitals around the United States, with teams who are familiar with their customers, and able to quickly and efficiently establish community-based solutions.
