As a Human Resources (HR) Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting our staff—the heart of our organization—while helping to ensure that our Homes remain an employer of choice in Maine. 

Position Summary

The Human Resources Manager oversees HR operations within the Augusta Home, with a focus on employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and retention. This role serves as a trusted resource for employees and leaders, providing responsive support, sound guidance, and consistent HR practices. The HR Manager supervises the HR Specialist/Coordinator and works closely with Home leadership and Home Office HR to support organizational goals and compliance with applicable laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide leaders through employee relations concerns, investigations, corrective action, and disciplinary processes, including preparing and reviewing documentation.
  • Coach supervisors on setting expectations, addressing performance concerns, providing feedback, and applying sound HR practices.
  • Oversee the performance evaluation process, tracking completion and supporting leaders with meaningful reviews and documentation.
  • Partner with leadership and Home Office HR on retention and employee engagement initiatives, using new hire surveys, employee feedback, and exit interviews to identify concerns and develop action plans.
  • Support recruitment through resume screening, interview scheduling, candidate communication, and tracking in Paylocity.
  • Coordinate reference and background checks, extend approved employment offers, and complete onboarding paperwork.
  • Assist with recruitment events and maintain accurate job descriptions and recruiting reports.
  • Coordinate employee accommodations and maintain confidential HR records.
  • Supervise the HR Specialist/Coordinator and ensure timely, professional support for employees and managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum three years of proven employee relations experience required, including workplace investigations, corrective action, and advising managers, with strong knowledge of employment and labor laws.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR practices.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders on people-related matters.
  • Excellent coaching, consulting, and relationship management skills
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality.

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, day shift, with occasional evening and weekend availability.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience considered
