Job purpose:
The Hardware engineer plays a critical role in designing, deploying, and maintaining the physical infrastructure that powers our cloud services. The engineering team at Exoscale works on all aspects from designing & developing products, to their operation and support. The Hardware Engineer works at the intersection of hardware and software. With an expanding customer base and new products to further advance Exoscale's product portfolio, Hardware Engineers ensures our data centers operate with maximum efficiency, reliability, and performance. Hardware Engineers also take active part in improving products This position focuses on specifying, designing and qualifying hardware for cloud data centers, including developping standards and hardware life cyle management.
Some of the challenges you will be working on:
- Design and specify hypervisor and storage chassis and servers, as well as hardware configurations.
- Evaluate and qualify new hardware technologies and vendors for deployment at scale.
- Develop hardware standards and best practices.
- Plan and execute hardware refresh cycles and participate in capacity expansions.
- Analyze hardware utilization and performance data to optimize configurations
- Monitor hardware performance, reliability metrics, and failure rates across the fleet.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware issues in production environments
- Coordinate with vendors, providers and manufacturers.
- Drive cost optimization initiatives through hardware lifecycle management.
- Collaborate with site reliability and software engineers to optimize hardware-software integration.
- Research emerging technologies and technology watch.
Ideal candidates:
- Strong understanding of x86/ARM server architectures, memory hierarchies, and I/O systems.
- Experience working in large scale data center environments.
- Experience with hardware automation and monitoring tools.
- Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and hardware management tools (IPMI, BMC, etc.)
- Experience with Open Compute Project.
- Understanding of power and cooling systems in data centers, including liquid cooling.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, and switching>
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
- Are curious, autonomous and embrace learning new things everyday.
- Are team players and are comfortable working in a distributed team.
- Have good English communication skills, written and spoken.
