Job Title: Game Developer-Console Porting
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Part-time (20hrs per week)
Work Roster: 9AM-1PM Sydney Time

About the Role

We're looking for a talented Game Developer to join one of our Australian client's remote team. Our client is a publishing studio that works with indie developers to publish and distribute their games on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The main focus of this role is porting existing, already-completed games for release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles — taking an indie developer's game and getting it console-ready. The role also includes hands-on development work, but porting is the primary responsibility.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with GameMaker Studio 2, Unreal Engine, or a similar game development platform, along with familiarity with GML (GameMaker Language), C#, and/or Python - the primary languages used across our codebase. Genuine familiarity with PlayStation consoles is essential, and familiarity with Xbox is preferred - this can come from console development experience or simply from being an engaged player who understands how these platforms work from a customer perspective.

This role suits someone who enjoys taking existing games and getting them ready for console audiences, is genuinely into console gaming, and can collaborate effectively with a remote team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Port and adapt existing, indie-developed games for release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, meeting platform-specific technical and certification requirements.
  • Develop and implement game features, mechanics, and interactive experiences as needed, alongside the porting work.
  • Work with GameMaker Studio 2, Unreal Engine, or similar game development platforms to build, adapt, and maintain game projects.
  • Translate game concepts and requirements into functional and engaging gameplay experiences.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.
  • Debug, test, and resolve gameplay, technical, and performance issues, including console-specific issues that arise during porting.
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, indie developer partners, and other team members to deliver console-ready builds.
  • Integrate game assets, animations, audio, UI elements, and other required components.
  • Optimise gameplay and technical performance for console hardware.
  • Review and evaluate games built by other, including indie, developers as part of the publishing and porting pipeline, providing technical and design feedback.
  • Participate in testing, iteration, and refinement based on feedback and platform certification requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation and provide regular updates on porting and development progress.
Requirements

  • Proven experience porting or adapting games for console platforms (PlayStation and/or Xbox), or strong game development experience with a clear ability to learn console porting and certification processes.
  • Genuine familiarity with PlayStation consoles (required) and Xbox consoles (preferred) — as a player or from a technical/customer perspective; being an active console gamer is a strong plus.
  • Experience with, or exposure to, the PlayStation Partners or ID@Xbox developer programs is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with GameMaker Studio 2, Unreal Engine, Unity, or a similar game development platform.
  • Familiarity with GML (GameMaker Language), C#, and/or Python — the primary languages used across the codebase.
  • Good understanding of gameplay mechanics, game systems, debugging, and optimisation.
  • Experience taking game features from concept through development, testing, and refinement.
  • Ability to work with existing codebases, often built by other developers, and contribute to ongoing projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience reviewing or evaluating games or code built by other developers, with the ability to give clear, constructive feedback.
  • A portfolio, GitHub profile, playable game, or examples of previous game development or porting work is highly desirable.

What We Offer

  • Remote, part-time working opportunity.
  • Collaborative and supportive remote team environment.
  • Opportunity to work on interesting games being published across PlayStation and Xbox
