The role
We’re hiring a freelance publicist to feature Short Story where our customer reads: shopping roundups and gift guides at Real Simple, InStyle, Good Housekeeping and People, and stories in places like Harper’s Bazaar, The Cut and WSJ. You set the strategy and open doors with editors. As you do, you’ll bring our team into the conversation, so every editor you introduce gets to know Short Story directly. Our team handles samples, styling sessions and scheduling.
What you’ll own
• Placements in shopping roundups and gift guides at our priority outlets
• Features and expert quotes in top-tier fashion and lifestyle press
• Commerce terms: advise us on affiliate setup, commissions and what editors expect
• A ranked media list and calendar built around spring, Mother’s Day, back to work and holiday
• Our stylists as the go-to source on petite fit
• Tracking: every placement logged with its link, traffic and signups
What success looks like
• 8+ placements in shopping roundups and gift guides, at least 3 in priority outlets
• 2+ features or expert quotes in top-tier fashion and lifestyle press
• New links from fashion and lifestyle sites
• A clear monthly read on what coverage drives in signups
You’re a fit if
• You have 6+ years in fashion, beauty or lifestyle PR
• Shopping editors answer your emails today
• You’ve landed commerce placements recently and can show us
• You know affiliate networks and what a fair deal looks like
• You tell us what will and won’t land, even when we don’t want to hear it
• You enjoy teaching. You’ll work alongside our coordinator and help her build real PR skills
The details
• This is a freelance contract role. You’ll invoice monthly, set your own schedule, and work from your own setup.
• About 10 to 15 hours a week, heavier in the first two months
• Clear weekly milestones.
• Remote, US. Starting in November
• You’ll work closely with our CEO, Director of Growth, and Community & Marketing Growth Operator.

What We Do
Short Story is the premiere personal styling service for petite women. We provide a unique shopping experience for any woman who is 5’4” or under looking for the perfect fit. Over half of women in the US are petite, yet petite women are extremely underrepresented in fashion & media and ignored by the apparel industry. Millions of petite women struggle with ill fitting clothes and frumpy styles--we think this is a ridiculous problem to have in 2021. Short Story was founded on the belief that petite women deserve a brand new shopping experience. We're a small but mighty team passionate about finding the best fit, quality, and styles for our clients. We deliver truly personalized styling experiences to the door. We're committed to building a strong community where petite women can feel heard, support each other, and be empowered in their everyday lives.
