SUMMARY
The Professional, Engineering - Thermodynamics is responsible for performing advanced thermodynamic, fluid-flow, heat-transfer, and computational fluid dynamics analyses in support of aircraft design, testing, and performance optimization. This position evaluates complex coupled fluid-heat transfer challenges, supports aircraft right-sizing and design decisions, prepares and documents analysis and test results, and develops engineering practice documentation to support consistent technical execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform complex computational analyses involving coupled fluid-heat transfer, pipe network flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and aircraft-related thermal challenges
- Conduct internal flow CFD analysis to support aircraft design, system performance, and component sizing decisions
- Interpret analysis results within the context of aircraft design requirements, right-sizing, reliability, safety, and performance objectives
- Prepare engineering test plans for analysis validation, ground testing, flight testing, and related technical evaluations
- Document analysis results, assumptions, methodologies, ground test findings, flight test findings, and technical recommendations
- Develop, write, and update engineering practice documents, procedures, and technical standards as required
- Use CFD, finite element, CAD, and simulation tools to model complex thermal-fluid behavior and support design trade studies
- Collaborate with engineering, design, testing, and program stakeholders to communicate results and support informed technical decisions
- Comply with company policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE
- Advanced knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, internal flow analysis, and coupled fluid-thermal systems
- Knowledge of CFD analysis methods, finite element analysis concepts, aircraft system performance, and in-flight icing considerations
- Working knowledge of Star-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, SpaceClaim, SimCenter3D, and Microsoft Office products, including advanced Excel
- Familiarity with inlet and outlet design, pipe network flow, test planning, ground testing, and flight test documentation
- Knowledge of programming, complex codes, Unix operating systems, high-performance computing interfaces, and languages such as Fortran, Visual Basic, C++, C#, or Python is preferred

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field required
- Coursework or experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, in-flight icing, CFD analysis, and thermal systems required
- Minimum of five to eight years of experience in internal flow CFD analysis required
- Experience performing complex CFD and finite element analyses required
- Experience with inlet/outlet design and analysis, high-performance computing, or programming is preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
- Repetitive use of the hands, wrists, and arms due to computer usage
- Work is primarily performed in an office or engineering environment with occasional exposure to test, laboratory, aircraft, or shop environments
- Short-term travel may be required to support testing, technical reviews, or project assignments

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- If a security clearance is required:

Skills Required
