The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for the implementation of project and process support activities toward attainment of departmental and plant goals. The primary focus is in areas of capacity expansion, equipment availability/reliability, quality/waste improvement and cost improvement programs. Required to handle multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity.


Duties and Responsibilities:

· As required within the scope of their duty, be responsible for authoring and/or formal review of technical documentation, including however not limited to, the following: Validations, Operations Procedures, Preventive Maintenance Schedules, Engineering Change Notifications, Spare Parts Listings, etc.

· Supports the plant manufacturing effort, with proven ability to identify problem root cause and develop/execute plans to ensure resolution. Specific focus will be in areas of improving upon quality, waste, and equipment efficiencies.

· Working knowledge and experience with PLC programing and Fanuc robotics systems and controllers.

· Demonstrated knowledge and experience with engineering and statistical analysis methods – Gage R&R, PFMEA, DOE, with Minitab or equivalent.

· Ability to handle projects of a moderate to large scope requiring extensive coordination. Will be required to handle several assignments (project & process duties) simultaneously.

· Responsible for coordinating activities between equipment vendors, corporate and plant functional departments on assignments and projects.

· Proven knowledge and experience, preferably Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt, in driving equipment and production process improvements. Must be highly skilled in the use of data/analysis tools and their use to drive data-based decisions that enable continuous improvement in productivity and/or exceeding budgeted goals.

· Responsible for the development of cost/benefit analysis for projects and supporting CAPEX financial justification. Responsible for effective cost projection and expense management of all projects per established plans.

· Acts as a safety leader for all technical associates and sets an example for safe work habits and rule compliance to always keep safety the number one priority.

· Assesses each unplanned downtime event for design improvement or potential changes to the PM to prevent similar events ongoing. Identifies and performs reliability improvements and leverages learning with other engineering personnel with similar opportunities.

· Establishes which elements comprising a job are suitable for in-house fabrication or revision and which items would be best contracted. Secures quotations and selects contractors accordingly.

· Has a clear understanding of the role of engineering in a manufacturing environment and the importance of their role in proactively driving and leading others for improvement to hit all safety, quality, delivery and cost related goals. Safety and Quality are always the first priorities, but engineers are expected to lead and drive reliability and consistency to achieve daily OEE and scrap goals.

· Directs the efforts of support personnel such as machinists and technicians, etc. in the modification, adjustment, removal, and installation of new or existing equipment as required.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Has a solid knowledge and understanding of compliance with established plant safety standards. Including but not limited to: Lockout / Tagout, NFPA 70E Electrical Safe Work Practices, and OSHA Subpart “O” for proper machine guarding.

· Has an applicable knowledge and ability to apply AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks for mechanical design improvements.

· Possesses high mechanical proficiency and analytical troubleshooting techniques to quickly home in on the root cause of unplanned failures. Supports the plant manufacturing effort, with proven ability to identify problems and complete root cause resolution including preventative solutions to prevent reoccurrence.

· Understands and employs solid engineering principles in part design, problem resolution, and while working with vendors. Uses solid judgement based on proper engineering calculations and data-based decision making.

· Must have awareness of product performance and quality requirements within scope of assignments.

· Must be able to develop a firm understanding of all equipment for which they are responsible for including set-up, adjustment, and assessment of improvements.


Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or degree equivalent, with a minimum of five to seven years relevant work experience.

· Experience in highly regulated environment (auto, food & beverage, medical devise) ISO 13485 preferred but not required

· Proficiency in structured solution problem solving systems with standardized methodology (DMAIC, TPM, Lean/Six Sigma – GB/BB)

· Ability to manage projects with competing goals and priorities with focus on efficiency and cost reduction

· Experience in production machine automaton and integration

 

Physical Requirements:

· Occasionally lift 50 lbs. and regularly lift to 30lbs, handle tasks involving frequent bending, twisting, lifting, squatting, walking, and standing.

· Must be able and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.

· Must be able to use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
