About The Role:

The Senior Materials Scientist or Engineer will use their core knowledge and deep understanding of polymers and materials compatibility to create solutions to Genapsys instrument challenges. This role requires the ability to concurrently manage multiple projects that require the application of materials and polymer chemistry knowledge to develop novel solutions needed to guide the instrument team launch our products on time and with superior quality. Typical activities involve compatible material selection,  materials processing, authoring material standards, creating and managing Genapsys instrument Materials Documentation systems, validating materials internally and with suppliers,  root-cause-analysis, FMEA, and researching new material process technologies to assess feasibility, and process optimization. The position reports to the Senior Director of Chemistry in our Redwood City, CA office. This is a very exciting time to Join our growing Genapsys team as the technology is rapidly scaling and approaching market adaption.  

Primary responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Fundamental understanding of industrial material processing technology (blow & injection moulding, extrusion, …etc) and ability to use this knowledge guide the selection of materials.
  • Directly work with Instrument design engineering, manufacturing, quality, and vendors to define, select and validate materials and their requirements.
  • Ensure materials cross compatibility with different chemical reagents, instrument design, and material processing strategies.
  • Perform and guide Materials compatibility testing with chemical reagents.
  • Apply root-cause-analysis  and FMEA fundamental concepts for all instrument material issues.
  • knowledge of related ASTM and ISO standards and materials testing methods; ability to develop customized materials requirements and techniques for complex hardware and instrumentation.
  • Communicate results effectively to stakeholders and other interested parties
  • Create and Write material standards for instrument materials.
  • Record, analyze, and interpret experimental results.
  • Document results in technical reports and present data at team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Polymer or Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or equivalent.
  • Strong technical experience in materials science and/or polymer science.
  • 3-5 years industrial experience working with and applying fundamental knowledge of polymers and materials science.
  • Experience developing and executing plans for material characterization and compatibility testing.
  • Hands-on experience with standard analytical tools (FTIR, DSC, Rheometry, DMA, etc.)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with ability to manage projects independently
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience writing material standards desired.
