Principal Video Delivery Engineer
The Charter Technical Engineering Center (CTEC) facilities in Englewood, CO oversee the design and architecture of Charter's multi-billion dollar network infrastructure. We investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical, Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.
JOB SUMMARY
Video is bigger than ever and evolving rapidly. As the industry systems evolve away from satellite and over the air (OTA) acquisition for more advanced live video formats, acquisition systems capabilities we must adapt and develop new solutions. As a Video Principal Engineer you will be working within the Media Acquisition, Processing and Delivery team responsible for Architecture and Engineering of Video Content Processing for IP linear and VOD services. Your focus will be on developing state of the art Video Delivery solutions in support of business initiatives. You will work as an engineer and architect across the enterprise to evaluate, test and document next generation technologies and new functionality and features. In addition, you will work with the video operations teams for platform maintenance and production issue resolutions. You'll be engaged with our Key Engineers and Architects on Architectural Integration and qualification of components and systems to include: HW and SW video encoders, Linear and JIT ABR packagers, Dynamic Ads Insertion components as well as various CDN technologies. The technologies are a mix of internal and externally developed and are vital towards enabling future services for customers.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Collaborate within a team of skilled video engineers whose overall responsibilities are the delivery solutions for next generation technologies and capabilities of Charter's IP Video Delivery Systems including: ABR packaging, MBR encoding, video quality analysis, and video QoE• Delivered solutions must incorporate: security, performance, availability, scale, and manageability for private, public and/or hybrid system architectures.• Be a subject matter expert in the evolution of video delivery technologies from standards by MPEG, ATSC and SMPTE to SVA, DASH and WAVE. Keep up to date on industry technical developments and trends that have practical relevance to IP video acquisition, processing and delivery.• Integrate your experiences and skills within a highly matrixed organization including product, software engineering, 3rd party technology providers and video operations.• Refine business and operational non-functional requirements into technical requirements and project milestones.• Deliver technical analysis, architecture, requirements, specifications, and/or functional test plans in support of various video related initiatives.• Support internal and external stakeholders in core technologies such as; encoding, packaging, content acquisition, content delivery (CDN), content protection (CAS/DRM) and Digital Ad Insertion (DAI)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Skills/Abilities and Knowledge • Linear video acquisition, content protection, video and audio encoding• Strong proficiency with various linux distributions (CentOS, RHEL, SuSE, Ubuntu)• Have a strongly inquisitive nature and ability to work effectively with 3rd party technology providers and internal stakeholders to drive proposed solutions• Working level competency with various cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenStack)• Functional experience using network design software like Visio/Lucid/Gliffy• Ability to author procedures and test cases using tools such as Confluence, Test Rail and JIRA• Practical Understanding of modern service delivery networks such as; IP Networking, virtualization, containers, webservices, and COTS computing hardware• Knowledge of software development processes. Coding is not required, but is a plus.• Knowledge of one or more of the following open source cloud technologies like Ceph, Ansible, docker, K8s, ELK.• Experience working and contributing within an agile value stream. Familiarity with git, and CI/CD tools and processes.

Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field from a 4-year College or University or related work experience

The pay for this position has a minimum of $107,600.00. The actual salary offer may be higher as we carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
