Solution Architect for CAT Digital Applications Engineering for Digital Marketing, Salesforce, eCommerce and Global Service applications.
Job Description:
This role will be responsible for solution architecture across a broad portfolio of applications within Digital Marketing, Salesforce CRM, eCommerce and Global Service. It is a critical role to enable the future of eCommerce and the seamless integration of data and experiences across platforms. This role will provide leadership via mentoring and partnership with other architects across CAT Digital and GIS.
JOB DUTIES:
This position is globally recognized within Caterpillar as an expert in Information Technology and the incumbent may be gaining some recognition externally within the industry. The Principal Digital Architect builds long-term strategy roadmap for digital solutions architecture and manages knowledge and technical training in their field. This includes responsibility for mentoring and developing others, particularly new members of their community. This position may also be responsible for developing training materials in a field, developing and/or leading the development of documentation of processes and knowledge (e.g. design standards, design patterns, test procedures, etc.), developing successors, and personally mentoring others as needed.
This role is accountable for providing Architectural and Strategic oversight for Cat Digital projects and programs; global technology roadmaps and application evolution plans; and for new technology, information, or integration standards.
Responsibilities include one or more of the following:
1.Provide oversight for architecture assessment and design for infrastructure, information or integration domains that provide core capabilities for the enterprise.
2.Lead Architecture design of end to end enterprise integrated systems that serves multiple business functions.
3.Lead the design and implementation of enterprise data model and metadata structures for complex projects.
4.Define which data is extracted and the rules by which it is transformed for complex projects.
5.Initiate and deliver technology evaluation and recommendations.
6.Develop and maintain current, planned and future state architecture blue prints.
7.Lead the efforts for Enterprise Technology and Application Rationalization.
8.Ensure programs maintain an enterprise-wide view to support adoption of standards and practices and promote reuse.
9.Develop, improve, validate, and use tools to facilitate Cat Digital Architecture efforts.
10.Lead in the development and alignment of the roadmaps with the Cat Digital business strategy.
11.Lead in the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers and requirements that drive the future state architecture.
12.Initiate and deliver Strategic Roadmaps and gain commitment for enterprise level architecture.
13.Lead strategy and architecture for new enterprise technology platforms.
14.Leads Business architecture for a specific business function.
15.Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
Typical customers include employees within multiple business processes or functions including multiple Business Units and Divisions, dealers, suppliers. and customers. In addition, this person may have direct relationships digital Directors and Executives.
Decisions made at this level are far reaching and affect the teams with whom they consult, Caterpillar business and Cat Digital strategy. Decisions may have significant impact on things such as strategic vendor relationships, transformational programs, enterprise architecture, sales and customer perception. Some of the key challenges facing this position are: leveraging knowledge to others; balancing short-term thinking against long-term strategy; developing strategic partners; delivering state-of-the-art solutions, architecture, and research projects as well as consistently acting in a proactive manner to advance Information Technology strategy.
Individuals must demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented business problems. The position is challenged to identify problems quickly and correctly, which are not obvious. Projects are typically complex and integrate business issues and problems, multiple application solutions, multiple Digital Technologies across various architectures. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions and works dependently with no oversight or direction. Communications for needed investments, architectural changes, or business needs is critical to ensure solutions can be created to meet strategic business capability needs.

6.Technical Digital Skills: - Deep expertise in one to many areas including software engineering, security, data interchange, data management, network, database, servers, storage, collaboration or other technical areas.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Typically, this position will require an accredited, four-year Information Technology degree, a closely related technical degree, or equivalent experience. Progressively related experience of least 12-15 years and recognition as a domain expert is necessary.
Required Qualifications:

  • Strong demonstrable experience delivering product and/or enterprise architecture for enterprise scale solutions in public cloud and hybrid eco-systems.
  • Must have in-depth understand and experience in two or more of the following: Digital Marketing, Salesforce, eCommerce and Service Information Systems
  • Strong understanding of Agile SDLC implementation in public cloud eco-system including environments management, test automation, peer review, CI/CD, resource optimization, etc.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with sensitive issues, mentor and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies, new applications, or potential solutions.


Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Search, data analytics, Personalization
  • Hands on experience with Core Java, Spring, Python, etc.
  • Hands-on development experience in public cloud environment (Azure or AWS)
  • Experience working with Caterpillar dealers and customers business systems and processes highly preferred
  • Experience in multiple business processes or organizations and experience in multiple digital disciplines is also beneficial.


The preferred location is Peoria, IL, Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX, but remote work within the United States is available for the right candidate.
