About Rune

Rune Technologies builds mission-critical software for military logistics and sustainment. Our flagship product is TyrOS, an AI-enabled logistics command and control platform that gives commanders a single, real-time operating picture of their sustainment fight, from inventory and distribution to medical and operational planning, even in degraded and contested environments.

We're not a traditional defense contractor. We're a small, fast-moving team that combines deep operational experience in and with the DoD with the software discipline of the best product companies, and we apply that combination to a customer set that desperately needs it. We stay close to our users by embedding directly with military units during exercises and rotations, and we ship constantly based on what we learn.

The U.S. military and its allies face a real logistics modernization problem. We're building the software to solve it.

About The Role

Rune builds logistics and sustainment technology for the U.S. military. Our systems combine software, communications, sensors, electronics, and hardware deployed in demanding operational environments.

We are looking for a hands-on Electromechanical Engineer who can design, build, integrate, test, and manufacture rugged physical systems.

This person should be comfortable moving between CAD, engineering drawings, schematics, datasheets, the shop, the bench, manufacturers, vehicles, and the field.

The core expectation is simple:

Turn system concepts into physical hardware that works—and can be manufactured repeatedly.

What You'll Do

Own Hardware From Concept Through Production
  • Drive physical design, electromechanical integration, prototyping, DFM/DFA, testing, qualification, and manufacturing maturation.

  • Take ownership of hardware through the full development lifecycle.

Design Rugged Physical Systems
  • Design enclosures, mounts, assemblies, packaging, wiring, and mechanical integration.

  • Integrate sensors, electronics, power systems, connectors, antennas, and other components.

  • Design hardware intended for demanding operational environments.

Design for Manufacturing
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to move hardware from prototype toward repeatable production.

  • Make design decisions around tolerances, materials, manufacturing processes, assembly, inspection, servicing, cost, and quality.

  • Design hardware that can be manufactured, assembled, installed, serviced, and scaled reliably.

Design to Requirements & Standards
  • Translate system and engineering requirements into physical design decisions.

  • Incorporate applicable military, commercial, safety, environmental, electrical, and mechanical standards.

  • Develop appropriate verification and qualification approaches.

Develop Production-Ready Designs
  • Create and maintain:

    • 3D CAD

    • Engineering drawings

    • Tolerances

    • BOMs

    • Wiring documentation

    • Assembly documentation

    • Manufacturing documentation

Work Directly With Manufacturing
  • Partner directly with suppliers, fabrication shops, and contract manufacturers.

  • Select appropriate manufacturing processes.

  • Resolve manufacturing and integration issues.

  • Transition designs from engineering prototypes into production.

Build, Test & Field
  • Personally prototype, fabricate, integrate, troubleshoot, qualify, install, and evaluate hardware.

  • Work in the lab and potentially in field environments.

  • Diagnose failures across mechanical and electrical boundaries.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • Experience designing, building, and testing electromechanical products.

  • Strong mechanical design fundamentals.

  • Experience integrating sensors, electronics, power, wiring, connectors, and other electrical components.

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Demonstrated experience applying DFM/DFA to move hardware from prototype toward repeatable production.

  • Hands-on prototyping and fabrication experience.

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and component datasheets.

  • Experience troubleshooting failures across mechanical and electrical boundaries.

  • Experience designing hardware to applicable engineering standards and translating requirements into design and verification decisions.

  • Ability to take an incomplete concept and turn it into working hardware.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with ruggedized, vehicle-mounted, tactical, industrial, aerospace, automotive, or robotics hardware.

  • Experience with wire harnesses, connectors, grounding/bonding, and power distribution.

  • Experience taking hardware from prototype through production and fielding.

  • Experience with applicable MIL-STDs and commercial standards such as SAE, ASME, ASTM, IPC, UL, NFPA, ISO, or IEC.

  • Experience with environmental qualification, including vibration, shock, temperature, ingress, and EMI/EMC.

  • Experience with sensors, embedded electronics, RF, or communications hardware.

  • Experience working directly with fabrication shops, contract manufacturers, and suppliers.

  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
