JOB SUMMARY:
The Division Director of Communications is a senior-level position responsible for managing all aspects of the City of Pembroke Pines’ communications efforts, both internal and external to promote, enhance and protect the City’s brand reputation, and ensure accurate, timely and effective information to residents and other City stakeholders. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing communication strategies and policies, overseeing communications staff, serving as one of the city’s spokespersons, managing public relations/marketing/brand consistency, crisis communications, media outreach; and collaborating with other departments to achieve communications objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Serve as the primary communications advisor to City leadership, and department directors
- Serves as one of City’s Public Information Officers (PIOs).
- Develop communications policies, ensure quality control, and enforce branding standards.
- Lead media outreach, handle inquiries, coordinate interviews, and monitor press coverage.
- Develop and execute crisis communications plans for emergency and sensitive situations in collaboration with the Emergency Management Director.
- Promote City programs, services, special events, and community initiatives across departments.
- Produce City Connect: Bimonthly, 24+ page digital publication (English and Spanish) in coordination with graphic designers and translators.
- Produce Newsflash: Monthly digital newsletter emailed directly to residents.
- Produce Spotlight: Twice-monthly digital summary of Commission meetings featuring video links and agenda highlights.
- Manage social media platforms, city website content, editorial content calendars, and analytics.
- Oversee audio-visual operations, digital media projects, and the local Comcast TV PEG station.
- Maintain compliance with public records laws, digital accessibility standards, and regulatory policies.
- Other duties as delegated and/or assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related fields.
- 5+ years’ experience in community communications with supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of public relations, strategic communications, and government communications.
- Experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other print publications and directories are required.
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms and emerging technologies.
- The technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms and create web and mobile content.
- Ability to lead and motivate staff to produce high-level content in various forms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position is primarily sedentary and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of hands to operate and control office equipment such as computers, phones, and other standard office tools.
- Occasional walking, standing, bending, or reaching may be required.
- May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- The work is performed in a professional office environment with moderate noise levels and controlled temperatures.
