About this role
As Director of Software Engineering, you are responsible for the direction, strategy, and execution of Engineering and Technology at Aerostrat. You enable the department to develop and maintain the best solutions for customers, ensuring Aerostrat’s applications and services are scalable, secure, and efficient. This is achieved through project management, leadership, and the architecting of both the technologies and methodologies used in building solutions. You will also be responsible for building a highly skilled Engineering team through recruiting, upskilling, mentoring, and retention.
The Director of Software engineering is also responsible for the technical coordination of the Information Security Management System (ISMS). You work with management to ensure prioritization of the implementation of the ISMS, ensuring its function, and periodically auditing it. Additionally, this position is also a part of the Information Security Team (IST), acting as the main technical representative and Engineering department representative.
In this role, you will...
- Partner with the CEO, Leadership team, and Product team to develop the product and company vision and strategy.
- Create and execute Aerostrat’s Engineering strategy.
- Clearly communicate Aerostrat’s technology and Engineering vision and strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
- Set goals that meet the organization’s and the Engineering department’s needs. These goals should set a high standard of success and draw on the strengths of the team.
- Lead all aspects of the development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, strategic planning, design/architecture, execution, hosting, deployment, and maintenance.
- Ensure Aerostrat’s Engineering team develops strong, stable, and scalable solutions.
- Build out Aerostrat’s tech stack and maintain an Engineering hiring and/or staffing plan that develops a strong focused culture and is responsive to Aerostrat’s needs.
- Recruit, interview, and onboard top-tier Engineering talent to meet aggressive growth goals.
- Member of the Information Security Team and responsible for Engineering’s implementation and compliance.
- Oversight over the implementation of information security controls for production infrastructure.

- SQL Server/Azure SQL Databases
- HTML, CSS and JS
- AngularJS (1.x) or similar frameworks
- REST APIs and microservices
- Pipelines such as Webpack
- WebGL and/or Canvas
- You have significant experience building, deploying, and supporting B2B cloud solutions on Azure or AWS
- You have significant experience growing, upskilling, mentoring, and retaining a high-performing Engineering team
- You are comfortable interfacing with both prospective and current customers and being the face of the Engineering team
- You are familiar with cybersecurity standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2 and will ensure the team is following and complying with these standards and cybersecurity best practices
- You are a self-starter who gets excited about learning and improving anything possible since we are still constantly developing many parts of our engineering stack
- You have a positive attitude and communication style because we've learned that excellent written communication and attitude go a long way for a remote team
Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience in B2B SaaS
- 5+ years software engineering leadership
- 5+ years of work experience working with Azure or AWS cloud projects and managing the total cost of ownership and/or development
- 5+ years of system design experience
- 5+ years working directly with customers Preferred Qualifications
- Background in aerospace or maintenance of durable assets.
- Experience building a team and launching new products
- Familiarity with information security and privacy frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and GDPR.
- 3+ years of HTML/CSS/JS experience and AngularJS framework experience or similar
- 3+ years of Python work experience or similar
- 3+ years of C# and/or ASP.NET experience or similar
- 3+ years of SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL experience and/or DBA experience or similar
- 3+ years of iDp experience, Entra ID experience, SAML 2.0, or OIDC experience or similar

Compensation…
- Title: Director of Software Engineering
- Base Salary: $170,000 – $260,000
- Job Type: Full-time; Remote (Within 50 miles of Seattle Preferred)
- Schedule: Monday - Friday; Normal business hours (flexible with manager approval)

Aerostrat is a developer of aircraft maintenance planning software, specifically its flagship tool Aerros, used by airlines, MROs, and cargo companies to schedule and manage heavy maintenance. The software helps operators automate complex scheduling, ensure production capacity, and simplify aircraft allocation, enabling them to better understand maintenance costs while maximizing yield and managing operational constraints.
