We are searching for an experienced finance leader to join our expanding team as the Director of Finance and Project Accounting. This position will provide leadership and oversight of KTA’s project accounting processes, project financial performance analysis, and assist the Controller in improving the financial management systems and financial performance analysis for the company. You will play a key role in supporting a project-based professional services organization and will work closely with executive management, operational leadership, project managers, and accounting staff to drive financial performance, improve processes, and support strategic decision-making.
This position is explicitly structured as a high-visibility stepping stone to a senior executive role (including CFO potential). You will not just manage numbers; you will influence strategic planning, collaborate across the organization at all levels, and build leadership skills required for C-suite advancement.
In twelve months, you will know you are successful when you have:
  • Provided meaningful financial and project performance analysis to support strategic initiatives and business decisions;
  • Consistently monitored project performance, including work-in-progress, profitability, and key financial trends;
  • Partnered with Business Unit leaders and Project Managers to improve financial understanding, accountability, and project results;
  • Lead initiatives to improve accounting and project accounting processes, reporting, automation, and efficiency;
  • Optimized the use of NetSuite and other financial management tools to support reporting and decision-making, including identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technology and AI to improve finance and accounting processes; and
  • Supported the prospect of merger and acquisition opportunities through financial analysis, due diligence, and evaluation.

This position will report to the CEO and work out of KTA’s corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh (in Findlay Township near the Pittsburgh International Airport), with the opportunity for a hybrid remote work schedule once fully acclimated.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a project-based, professional services, consulting, engineering, construction, or similar business environment.
  • CPA and/or MBA are a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, particularly project accounting functionality.
  • Strong experience with project accounting, job costing, and project financial analysis; working with multiple contract types, including lump sum, cost-plus, and time-and-materials (T&M) arrangements.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements, automation, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of various government cost accounting, DCAA, FAR, etc. requirements and understanding of ESOPs and ERISA – preferred.

Skills Required
