Equal1 is building silicon-based quantum computers, integrating spin qubits and cryo-CMOS control electronics on standard semiconductor processes. We are looking for a DevOps / Platform Engineer to join our team in Timișoara and build infrastructure for the whole company, across all our sites, with a focus on our full-stack software framework and our measurement activities. You will work closely with our IT Manager from day one. Over time, the role will also support our SoC / hardware modeling team.
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesOwn CI/CD, build and release pipelines for the quantum software stack (Python, C/C++), including simulator and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
Automate the flow of data from lab instruments and measurement setups into central storage, with experiment tracking and traceability.
Design data infrastructure that scales across sites: storage, backup, retention and access policies.
Manage lab and engineering compute as code, and run observability (logging, metrics, alerting) for internal services.
Progressively support the SoC / HW modeling team with simulation compute, job scheduling, license servers and regression pipelines.
Evaluate and, if pursued, build GPU infrastructure for ML / LLM training and serving.
Work with the IT Manager on identity, networking, security and cloud accounts, so DevOps and IT form one coherent setup.
Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
4+ years of experience in DevOps, platform, SRE or build/release engineering.
Strong Linux administration and scripting skills (Bash, Python).
Hands-on experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins), Docker and Kubernetes or similar.
Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) across on-premises and cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP).
Solid networking and security fundamentals.
Fluent English and the ability to work with physicists, hardware and software engineers.
Desired:
Experience with HPC, EDA or scientific computing environments (Slurm, license servers).
Lab automation or data acquisition (QCoDeS, PyVISA) and experiment tracking (ClearML, MLflow).
Data engineering (object storage, HDF5/Parquet, PostgreSQL) or GPU / ML infrastructure.
If you want to build the platform behind a quantum computer from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.

What We Do
Equal1 Laboratories is accelerating the introduction of useful, cost effective quantum computers within a three-year time horizon. The company has developed a disruptive, scalable and cost-effective quantum computing technology, based on a commercially available silicon semiconductor process. Our solution uses nanometer-scale quantum dots to form qubits on a standard silicon CMOS process. Along with silicon qubits, we have integrated all functions required for a quantum processing unit (QPU) – the brain of the quantum computer – which operates at 3 kelvin with over 10 million transistors. This is the first integrated quantum processing unit of its kind. The company’s server-sized demonstrator, called Alice, uses the second generation, fully functioning QPU. Alice uses our 424 quantum-dot-array structure to demonstrate early indications of the impact this technology can have on AI applications. Equal1 is developing its silicon-based quantum computer technology in collaboration with University College Dublin, with hardware development laboratories in Fremont, California and a silicon design center at NovaUCD in Dublin, Ireland
