Job Description

EBA&D is seeking an accomplished engineer for the position of Development Engineer supporting our Payload Deployment products reporting to the Product Development Manager. This position is located in Moorpark, CA

Responsibilities:

The Development Engineer (DE) is the technical lead on internal and external projects and is responsible for all technical and schedule aspects of the project/product from concept through development, qualification and production, with a focus on our Payload Deployment product line.

Primary duties include:

  • Acts as the primary technical liaison between customers and EBAD, including the completion of major design reviews (such as PDR and CDR).
  • Development and maintenance of the technical data package, as well as product testing documentation requirements and methods.
  • Coordination with other departments to ensure the viability of new designs, creation of the required documentation, and internal and customer approval for this documentation.
  • Provides technical leadership to multiple project teams.
  • Create 3D conceptual models to meet customer design requirements.
  • Technical compliance and risk assessment/management.
  • Perform, rationalize, and document design trade studies and hand calculations.
  • Work with analytical team to rationalize new designs.
  • Perform tolerance studies to ensure design fidelity.
  • Interact with customers on design, interface and functional details.
  • Interact with suppliers to rapid prototype parts for risk reduction testing.
  • Requirements generation, allocation, and flow down.
  • Responsible for Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Creation of documentation for design verification testing and qualification testing, including dynamic and thermal environments.
  • Complete program subcontractor data requirements such as compliance verification matrices, structural analysis reports and qual-by-similarity reports.

Requirements:

  • The successful candidate must have a BS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical or aerospace engineering, and a minimum of 5 years of project, design or related engineering experience. Additionally, it is desired that the candidate has experience in the following areas:
  • Design and application of electromechanical actuators.
  • Experience with Payload Deployment devices is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of satellite or launch vehicle systems as well as experience with manufacturing processes, rapid prototyping and product development.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills for interaction with various levels of management and customers.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Experience with government specifications and industry standards related to aerospace components and systems design, manufacture, and test.
  • Capable of applying GD&T and understanding how it affects part cost and manufacturing.
  • Strong SolidWorks experience is required. Must be capable of creating 3D parts, assembly models and drawings.
  • Strong skills in MS Windows - Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Familiar with and able to work in MS Project.
  • Experience with the design of tooling and fixtures for environmental testing of space components.
  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Candidates must meet all requirements under BATFE and ITAR.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 per year. Salary is determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
