Data Engineer I

Job Summary:
The Data Engineer I plays a crucial role in extracting, analyzing, and interpreting complex data sets to
drive informed decisions to improve healthcare quality, affordability, and equity. You will be responsible
for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, databases, and analytical frameworks. You
will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including health policy experts, analysts, and healthcare
stakeholders, to identify and address data-related challenges and opportunities.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain data pipelines, ETL processes, and workflows to collect, clean, and transform
data from various sources into usable formats
• Ensure data integrity, quality, and accuracy throughout the data processing lifecycle
• Analyze and interpret healthcare claims data and related data sets to identify patterns, trends, and
insights
• Generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings effectively to nontechnical stakeholders
• Design, develop, and maintain databases, data models, and schemas for efficient storage and
retrieval of data
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them
into data solutions
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data analysis,
engineering, and visualization
• Identify opportunities to improve data infrastructure, processes, and analytics capabilities
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of health data, multi-payer databases, public healthcare payers, claims processing, and
claims data analytics
• Knowledge of US healthcare policy, trends, and factors such as eligibility, utilization, cost, and equity
• Knowledge of state government role in healthcare
• Strong proficiency in data analysis and data visualization using tools such as SQL, Python, R, Excel, or
similar
• Proficiency in data profiling, manipulation, and transformation using tools like Pandas, SQL, or
similar
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
• Familiarity with data modeling, database management, and cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS,
Azure, Google Cloud)
• Solid understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning concepts
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to present complex findings in a
clear and concise manner
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in healthcare administration, data science, statistics, or equivalent
work experience preferred
• 2+ years of experience as a data analyst in the healthcare industry, preferably in claims
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
