Ubiq Aerospace is a Trondheim-based deep tech company on an ambitious growth journey. We develop next-generation ice protection systems, smart aerostructures and sensing systems for aircraft operating in the world's harshest environments.
We are looking for an experienced Composite Manufacturing Engineer to take a key role as we enter the next stage of our development. Until now, much of our composite work has centred around R&D, prototyping and low-rate production. As our products mature, we are now building the manufacturing capabilities and processes needed to produce them at greater scale.
You'll work across both product development and manufacturing, helping us bridge the gap between a great prototype and a product that can be manufactured reliably and repeatedly. This is a hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable discussing composite design and manufacturing strategy, developing a production process, and getting into the workshop to solve a problem.
You'll work closely with both our current Mechanical team and with our growing Manufacturing organisation as we develop both our products and the way we build them.
What you'll doThe role can be tailored to the right candidate, but we expect you to contribute across both R&D and manufacturing. Some of your responsibilities will include:
Develop composite structures and manufacturing processes from early concepts through industrialisation and production.
Apply Design for Manufacture principles to improve repeatability, quality, cycle time and cost.
Select and optimise materials, lay-ups, tooling, curing processes and manufacturing methods for both performance and manufacturability.
Develop and optimise composite manufacturing processes as we move from prototypes and low-rate production towards greater manufacturing volumes.
Work hands-on with composite manufacturing, including lay-up, moulding, curing, trimming and inspection.
Help introduce appropriate production methods, tooling and automation as our manufacturing capabilities grow.
Collaborate closely with mechanical, manufacturing, systems and test engineers to ensure product and production requirements are considered together.
Support structural and flight testing, analyse results and feed learnings back into both product and process development.
Develop and document robust manufacturing processes and contribute to the quality systems required for aerospace production.
Practical, solution-oriented and quality-focused.
Comfortable taking ownership and turning problems into workable solutions.
Motivated by both developing products and figuring out how to manufacture them well.
Able to move comfortably between engineering analysis, CAD and hands-on manufacturing.
Collaborative and able to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.

We're looking for someone with significant experience in composite engineering and, importantly, experience taking composite components beyond prototypes and into repeatable production.
Ideally, you'll bring several of the following:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
Significant professional experience developing and manufacturing composite components. As a guide, this could be 10+ years in composite product development or 5+ years in medium- or high-volume composite manufacturing.
Experience designing composite components for manufacture and scaling production beyond prototypes or low-rate builds.
Strong understanding of laminate design, composite materials and failure mechanisms.
Practical experience with composite manufacturing processes such as prepreg, vacuum bagging, infusion, moulding and curing.
Experience developing and optimising tooling, moulding processes and curing cycles, including hot-press moulding.
Experience from aerospace, automotive, drones/UAVs, cycling, marine or other industries producing high-performance composite components.
Experience with autoclave manufacturing, snap-cure processes or automation of composite manufacturing is an advantage.
Experience developing products and manufacturing processes within AS9100 or similar quality systems is an advantage.
Familiarity with CAD, structural analysis and FEA is an advantage.
We don't expect one person to have done all of the above. More important is that you've worked through the challenges of turning composite designs into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes and are excited about helping us do the same.
