Freese and Nichols is seeking a Coastal Engineer – Water Resource Design to join our team in Houston, Texas office. As Coastal Engineer, you will lead technical delivery for coastal and navigation projects spanning planning, design and construction-phase services while growing your project management, client relationships and technical leadership experience. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead engineering deliverables for coastal and navigation planning, design and construction-phase projects 

  • Manage small- to medium-sized projects or support project management for larger, more complex assignments 

  • Coordinate project teams, schedules, resources and technical tasks to support quality delivery within established scope and budget 

  • Develop and review engineering analyses, calculations, studies, reports, plans and other technical deliverables 

  • Apply quality assurance and quality control processes while reviewing your work and the work of project team members 

  • Guide engineers and technical staff on assigned project tasks and follow up on schedules, deliverables and technical requirements 

  • Build client relationships through project delivery, technical discussions, conferences and other industry activities Identify opportunities to improve technical approaches, processes and project delivery methods and share recommendations with project teams 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering 

  • Professional Engineer license 

  • 4+ years of related engineering experience, including work requiring independent evaluation, selection and application of standard engineering techniques 

  • Experience delivering coastal or navigation projects and working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 

  • Experience coordinating project teams and working directly with clients, regulatory agencies or other project stakeholders 

Preferred 

  • Master’s degree or higher in coastal engineering, ocean engineering or a related engineering field 

  • Project Management Professional certification 

  • Working knowledge of numerical modeling for coastal storm risk management, navigation or dredging projects 

  • Experience with coastal restoration, beach nourishment, shoreline protection, dredging, coastal structures, hazard analyses, hydrodynamic modeling or coastal process analyses 

  • Experience reviewing construction plans and graphics prepared in CAD and ArcGIS
