Job Description

We are looking for a senior First Line of Defense Risk Specialist to design, maintain and continuously enhance the divisional risk and control framework for our private banking and asset management activities. In this role, you will provide expert guidance on complex risk topics, drive a robust internal control environment and ensure effective coordination with our second and third line of defense functions. You will work closely with senior management and key stakeholders to support strategic decision‑making and foster a strong risk culture across the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification and assessment of key risks across divisional core processes and maintain a comprehensive divisional control blueprint.
  • Design, perform and enhance first line controls, monitor their effectiveness and constructively challenge control owners to strengthen the internal control system.
  • Analyse operational risk incidents, key risk indicators and other risk data, defining corrective and preventive measures and following up on their timely implementation.
  • Prepare clear and insightful risk and control reporting for senior management, and coordinate control certification and sign‑off processes within the division.
  • Coordinate the functional Risk and Control Self‑Assessment (RCSA), translate outcomes into pragmatic remediation plans and track progress to closure.
  • Perform first line Market Surveillance (Market Abuse) controls, including analysis and closure of alerts, and escalate significant issues to Conduct & Regulatory Compliance.
  • Act as the central interface with second line functions (Risk, Compliance) and third line (Internal Audit), ensuring effective coordination and closure of open issues and audit findings.
  • Advise senior management and key stakeholders on complex risk and control matters, promoting risk awareness and contributing to a strong risk culture.
  • Contribute as a key risk and control expert to strategic projects and initiatives that impact the divisional risk and control framework.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree and/or relevant professional certifications such as CFA, CAIA, FRM or equivalent.

Professional Experience

  • Typically 10+ years of experience in risk management, asset management or Business Risk Management, ideally within private banking or broader financial services.
  • Proven track record in designing, implementing and enhancing risk and internal control frameworks in a first line of defense environment.
  • Experience in interacting with second line (Risk, Compliance) and third line (Internal Audit) functions and in managing remediation of audit and review findings.

Technical and Functional Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of risk management principles, internal control frameworks and operational risk concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of private banking and asset management products, services and core front‑to‑back processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and patterns in risk data and develop medium‑term solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across multiple levels and functions.
  • Highly organised, result‑oriented, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously while providing guidance to junior team members.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with asset management and advisory tools (such as Charles River, Aladdin or similar) is an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Additional languages are an asset.
