This Business Development Manager role is responsible for driving sales growth, customer retention, and business development within an assigned territory by building strong relationships with key stakeholders and delivering innovative solutions to customer challenges. The position requires working closely with existing and prospective customers, developing and executing strategic sales plans, conducting account audits, and leading sales campaigns to achieve profitability goals. The successful candidate will serve as a technical and business advisor, support new technology trials, and collaborate across functions to deliver value-added programs and continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, the role involves mentoring less experienced sales professionals, demonstrating leadership, and engaging with customer organizations at all levels. Candidates should possess significant experience in the chemical and/or oil and gas industry, strong sales and account management skills, and the ability to travel throughout the territory while maintaining a strong focus on safety and customer success.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  •  High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years of chemical industry experience
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned sales territory
  • Ability to support up to 10% overnight travel
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship available)

Required Skills & Experience (Must – Haves)

  • 5+ years of experience in the chemical industry
  • Proven account management and customer relationship-building skills
  • Experience developing and executing sales strategies to achieve revenue and profitability goals
  • Strong relationship skills and ability to understand client challenges and provide solutions
  • Ability to identify and capture opportunities to create value for customers while driving revenue growth for the business.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and recommend innovative solutions
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels, including operational leadership
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across cross-functional teams
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance, and customer service

Preferred Skills & Experience (Nice to Have)

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial) or Life Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, etc.)
  • 5+ years of technical sales or field sales support experience
  • Oil & gas industry experience
  • Experience leading key accounts and influencing key stakeholders
  • Experience supporting or leading new technology trials and implementations
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and business systems
  • Demonstrated adaptability, self-motivation, and strong ethical standards

Job Duties:

 

  • Manage and grow existing customer accounts while developing new business opportunities within the assigned territory
  • Build strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders across customer organizations
  • Develop and execute territory sales plans to achieve profit growth objectives
  • Conduct regular customer account health checks and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Recommend innovative products, services, and process improvements to customers
  • Lead and support sales campaigns and business development initiatives within the district
  • Support and champion trials of new technologies and solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement customer-focused programs and share best practices
  • Participate in district, regional, and corporate initiatives as a sales leader
  • Call on all levels of customer organizations, from operational personnel to executive leadership
  • Mentor, coach, and support less experienced sales representatives and  account managers
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and company standards
  • Travel throughout the assigned territory to support customer and business needs
