Job Summary:

The role provides technical leadership and hands-on expertise in designing, implementing and maintaining test automation frameworks/libraries and testing strategies, including the adoption of AI-powered testing. The role is accountable for the overall software quality of the applications and releases in scope, and is central to driving quality engineering practices, mentoring engineers, and delivering efficient, scalable and sustainable testing solutions across projects.
The position requires strong technical expertise in test automation and quality engineering, combined with the ability to mentor teams and influence stakeholders in a large-scale, regulated environment. Practical experience in AI-powered testing is highly preferred, and the successful candidate is expected to act as the owner and advocate of quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Job Duties:

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and long-term maintainability of test automation frameworks/libraries(e.g. Cucumber + Ruby + Selenium)
• Drive the evaluation, pilot and adoption of AI-powered testing capabilities – such as AI-assisted test design and script generation, self-healing automation, intelligent test selection and impact analysis, and AI-based defect triage – to improve coverage, speed and maintainability
• Ensure responsible and controlled use of AI in testing, including model/tool governance, human review of AI-generated artefacts, and traceability to meet regulatory and audit requirements
• Partner with cross-functional teams – including business, application development, DevOps and testing teams – to design and implement fit-for-purpose automation solutions and tooling for complex mission-critical applications such as trading, clearing and risk systems
• Consolidate test libraries, utilities and tools from multiple projects into reusable, well-governed shared assets, reducing duplication and delivering measurable time and cost savings
• Define, publish and enforce testing standards, frameworks and engineering best practices across projects, ensuring alignment with TCOE governance, company standards and regulatory requirements
• Lead continuous improvement and innovation in test automation and quality processes, translating these initiatives into higher application quality, faster time-to-market and sustained cost efficiency
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to test engineers and automation specialists, and build team capability in modern and AI-assisted testing practices
• Remain hands-on in project delivery, including test design, scripting and troubleshooting of automation in live project cycles
• Own the overall software quality of assigned applications and releases – functional and non-functional – by defining and enforcing quality gates, entry and exit criteria and release readiness sign-off, and escalating quality risks and blocking issues on a timely basis
• Drive measurable quality improvement through quality metrics (coverage, defect leakage, production escapes, cycle time), root cause analysis and shift-left practices embedded with development, business and DevOps teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in software testing and quality engineering, including at least 3 years in a technical leadership role
• Strong expertise in testing techniques, test automation tools and frameworks (Cucumber, Selenium, Ruby)
• Proficiency in scripting/programming languages (Ruby, Python, Java); software development experience is preferred
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab) and cloud or containerised environments
• Solid understanding of SDLC, Agile and DevOps practices, with a shift-left approach to quality
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with sound risk-based judgement under delivery pressure
• Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities, able to influence technical and business audiences at all levels
• Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end software quality, including quality gates, quality metrics, release readiness assessment and defect governance
• Working knowledge of AI/GenAI concepts and their application to software testing, with a pragmatic view of benefits, limitations and risks

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with AI-powered testing is highly preferred – for example AI/GenAI-assisted test case and script generation, self-healing locators, intelligent test selection and prioritisation, AI-based defect triage or automated test maintenance
• Experience with AI-adaptive automation stacks (e.g. Python + Playwright) and integrating LLM/AI agents or copilots into testing and CI/CD workflows is highly preferred
• Background or experience in financial markets, trading, clearing and/or risk management systems is highly desirable
• Ability to prioritise workload under pressure, managing tight deadlines across multiple concurrent projects
