The Role
Own and lead the QA function while building scalable test, process, and AI-driven automation. Establish quality standards, metrics, governance, and CI/CD-integrated testing using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, UiPath, n8n, and Camunda. Lead QA and automation engineers, hire and coach team members, partner with engineering and leadership, and deliver measurable reductions in manual effort while meeting regulatory requirements.
Summary Generated by Built In
Our mission is to Simplify Life. avertra helps highly regulated, customer-centric industries, led by utilities and energy, deliver exceptional experiences through our MiCustomer platform and digital services.
This is a build-and-lead mandate, not a maintenance role. You own quality, and you turn automation into how avertra scales without scaling effort.
We are looking for an Automation Manager who treats every manual, repetitive task as a problem to be automated away. You will own our Quality Assurance function and lead avertra's push to automate, both in how we test our software and in how the business runs, with AI at the center of the approach.
Quality is what earns the trust of enterprise and regulated clients, and automation is how we move fast without breaking that trust. You will set the standard for both. You are a hands-on leader: close enough to the tools to unblock an engineer on a real problem, and senior enough to build the frameworks, the standards, and the team that make quality and automation compound over time.
You start from the outcome and the risk, then design the automation, then build the framework and the team to sustain it. You would rather prove a 40% reduction in manual effort than describe one.
QA Leadership
- Own the QA function end to end: the strategy, the standards, and the quality gates that keep our products and internal systems dependable.
- Define and hold the team to clear quality metrics, defect escape rate, test coverage, and release readiness, and drive continuous improvement against them.
- Shift quality left, embedding it into planning and delivery rather than treating it as a final checkpoint.
- Design, build, and scale automated testing, functional, regression, and performance, integrated into CI/CD so quality is verified continuously.
- Build and own robust, reusable automation frameworks using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, and equivalents, and grow automation coverage as a tracked metric.
- Identify and build AI-powered automations that remove manual effort across testing and business processes, using tools such as UiPath, n8n, Camunda and other BPMN engines, and GenAI.
- Set the standards for responsible, practical AI use that raises output and consistency without compromising quality or control.
- Manage, coach, and grow a team of QA and automation engineers, ensuring they have the skills, tools, and clarity to do their best work.
- Hire to support growth, and develop team members toward greater technical depth and responsibility.
- Ensure quality and automation practices meet the governance and regulatory requirements of highly regulated industries.
- Partner with engineering, DevOps, and leadership, and deliver automation initiatives on time, on budget, and with measurable impact.
RequirementsCore Mindset & Traits
AI-First Automator
You do not automate for its own sake. You point AI and automation at the work that carries real cost, risk, and toil, and you can prove the return in numbers.
Quality as a DisciplineQuality is built in at every stage, never inspected at the end, and you measure it with data, not opinions.
Hands-On LeaderYou can still write the framework and debug the pipeline, and you are senior enough to set the standard and grow the team. Your engineers respect you because you can do the work.
Framework BuilderYou build reusable frameworks and standards so automation compounds, instead of leaving behind a pile of brittle scripts.
Ruthless PrioritizerYou aim automation at the highest-value, highest-risk work first, and you deliver on time and on budget.
Talent MultiplierYou hire, coach, and stretch QA and automation engineers into a team that keeps getting measurably better.
