You will join our Building Structures team

As a new member of the Building Structures team, you will be part of talented, fun and international team, working on a range of projects in a variety of sectors including commerial offices, education, healthcare, heritage, industrial, defence and residential. We promote home and hybrid working however are looking for candidates that can travel in to one of our key locations, which include Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Chester, London, Leeds, Manchester and Southampton.

This opportunity will give you exposure to work on a number of exciting local landmarks as well as national and international projects. We actively encourage design flair and early career responsibility. Working with the leading architects we are recognised for our bold innovative approach, that is underpinned by our Scandinavian design heritage and foundation ownership.

Ramboll is looking for an experienced Associate Structural Engineer to support the growth of our Seismic team within the UK. You will be working with our existing Structures team across the UK, building on our strong capabilities in commercial, residential, education, healthcare, heritage, industrial, defence and government projects.

Working with the leading architects we are recognised for our bold innovative approach, that is underpinned by our Scandinavian design heritage and foundation ownership.


Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities in the team, both from a commercial and technical perspective, providing guidance to junior staff
  • Develop client business relationships through building trust and open communication and represent Ramboll at external client meetings responding to their requirements and needs
  • Develop and agree structural concepts, design philosophies and undertake peer reviews
  • Take ownership as day-to day seismic lead on a project or part of a project

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent in structural / civil engineering
  • Chartered with the IStructE, ICE or international equivalent
  • Demonstratable experience as an Associate Structural Engineer
  • An excellent communicator capable of explaining complex engineering principles in plain language, verbally, in writing and through sketching
  • Great with people, diverse in your outlook and with something different to bring to the table


Technical competencies and proven experience required in these fields:

  • Structural seismic analysis and detailing of both reinforced concrete and steel using international and local codes of practice (e.g., European, American, New Zealand, Turkish etc.)
  • Seismic assessment of reinforced concrete, steel and masonry structures using international and local codes of practice (e.g., EC8, ASCE41-17, NZSEE17 etc.)
  • Seismic retrofit of existing structures using traditional and new techniques (e.g. advanced composite materials)
  • Knowledge of engineering software and structural design programmes (e.g. Sap2000, ETABS, CSI SAFE, etc.)
