Position Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Position Overview

Global Dynamics LLC is seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to support the Director of Nursing in the oversight and management of nursing services within a long-term care or healthcare facility.

The Assistant Director of Nursing collaborates closely with the Director of Nursing and facility Administrator to ensure the delivery of high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with State of Maryland regulations, federal healthcare standards, and organizational policies.

The ADON plays a key leadership role in clinical operations, quality assurance, infection control, staff development, and performance improvement initiatives that support resident safety and quality of care.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance Improvement & Quality Assurance

· Support and assist in the implementation of the facility’s Performance Improvement (PI) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs.

· Ensure compliance with federal and State of Maryland healthcare regulations related to nursing services and resident care.

· Collaborate with department heads to identify and prioritize care and service improvement initiatives.

· Monitor resident care plans to ensure appropriate implementation and regulatory compliance.

· Track quality indicators and follow up on identified issues until appropriate resolutions are achieved.

· Assist in the development and implementation of corrective action and performance improvement plans.

· Maintain and oversee the annual Quality Assurance calendar and reporting activities.

· Participate in facility safety meetings and quality review committees.

· Review admissions, readmissions, transfers, and discharges to identify potential quality of care concerns.

Incident and Risk Management

· Monitor and respond to unusual occurrences and incident reports within the facility.

· Assist with investigations and documentation of incidents, accidents, or emergency events.

· Conduct monthly trend analysis of incident reports to identify patterns or systemic issues.

· Ensure appropriate follow-up actions are implemented to maintain resident safety.

Infection Prevention and Control

· Serve as the facility’s Infection Control Practitioner.

· Monitor infection trends and report communicable disease occurrences such as influenza or gastrointestinal illness.

· Maintain documentation and logs related to antibiotic use and infection control surveillance.

· Coordinate vaccination programs for residents and staff as appropriate.

· Oversee compliance with the facility’s Exposure Control Plan and Tuberculosis Control Program.

· Ensure infection control documentation is maintained in an organized and retrievable format in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Clinical Leadership

· Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff in the management of complex resident care situations.

· Assist nursing staff with clinical decision-making and problem resolution.

· Participate in resident care activities when needed to maintain clinical competency.

· Promote best practices in nursing care and support quality resident outcomes.

Communication and Team Collaboration

· Foster effective communication among staff, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

· Assist in resolving communication challenges or conflicts in a professional and constructive manner.

· Ensure that clinical and safety updates are communicated through appropriate channels including memos, communication logs, and meetings.

· Encourage staff engagement and collaboration to support positive resident care outcomes.

Administrative Leadership

· Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with the mission and philosophy of Global Dynamics LLC and the facility served.

· Perform administrative on-call duties as assigned.

· Support operational and clinical initiatives led by the Director of Nursing and Administrator.

· Perform additional administrative or supervisory responsibilities as assigned.

Staff Education and Development

· Support and coordinate staff in-service training and education programs.

· Promote ongoing professional development among nursing staff.

· Participate in educational workshops and leadership development activities.

· Ensure attendance and participation in required training programs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required

· Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland

· Progressive nursing experience in acute care or long-term care settings

· Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in nursing services

· Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical standards

Preferred

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field

· Previous experience in nursing leadership or management roles

Physical Requirements:

The Assistant Director of Nursing must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary to support clinical operations, including:

· Standing, walking, bending, and stooping during the shift

· Assisting with resident transfers or lifting when necessary (up to 50 pounds)

· Navigating facility stairways during emergency situations

· Working in resident care areas where exposure to infectious diseases may occur

Work Environment

The work environment includes resident rooms and clinical areas that are well-lighted and ventilated, but may involve exposure to healthcare-related hazards.

ADON works in a healthcare environment supporting residents in long-term care or similar healthcare settings. The position requires interaction with residents, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality care and regulatory compliance.
