About McLaren Trefanenko Inc.

McLaren Trefanenko Inc. (MTI) is a well-established and growing Chartered Professional Accounting firm located in New Westminster. For over 40 years, we have proudly served clients across British Columbia.

We combine the stability of a long-standing practice with the innovation of a modern, fully paperless office. Our team embraces technology to work smarter, not harder—giving you more time to focus on building relationships and delivering meaningful client results.

At MTI, we value collaboration, respect, and integrity. We foster a supportive, close-knit workplace where people look out for each other, share knowledge, and celebrate successes. Community involvement and continuous learning are part of our DNA, and we’re excited to welcome someone who shares these values.

About You

You are an experienced tax professional who enjoys the variety of working with both individuals and businesses. You have hands-on experience with Personal (T1), Corporate (T2), and Estate (T3) tax returns, as well as a solid foundation in bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and compilation engagements.

With several years of accounting experience in public practice or industry, you’re ready to take on more responsibility and develop deeper client relationships. Colleagues describe you as self-driven, detail-oriented, and a team player who contributes to a positive workplace culture.

While an accounting designation (CPA) is an asset, it is not required. What matters most is your commitment to accuracy, problem-solving, and delivering client-ready work.

What You’ll Be Doing

A typical week may include:

  • Preparing personal, corporate, and estate tax returns
  • Preparing financial statements and compilations, with some involvement in review engagements
  • Communicating with clients regarding tax and accounting matters
  • Corresponding with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on client files
  • Coordinating and managing projects to ensure deadlines are met
  • Contributing to a culture of mentorship, teamwork, and knowledge-sharing

Tools You’ll Work With

  • QuickBooks Online
  • CaseWare / CaseView / Jazz-IT
  • TaxCycle
  • PayWorks
  • Dext
  • Microsoft Office 365 & Teams
  • Document Management Systems

What We Offer

We want you to thrive at MTI. Here’s how we support that:

  • Competitive compensation with growth potential
  • Extended health benefits
  • RRSP matching contributions
  • Paid sick leave and vacation policies
  • Professional development support – CPA exam fees, PD allowances, and mentorship opportunities
  • Work-life balance initiatives such as reduced summer hours
  • A positive and engaging culture with team-building events, community involvement, and a genuine sense of belonging

Additional Information

Final candidates will be asked to complete standard reference and background checks.
