A bookkeeper/accounting assistant plays a vital role in supporting the accounting department by performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. This position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and a good understanding of accounting principles. The primary goal of an accounting assistant is to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of financial data management, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in preparing financial statements and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information.
- Maintain and update accounting records, including ledgers, journals, and other financial documents.
- Process invoices, receipts, and payments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Reconcile bank statements and ensure all transactions are correctly recorded.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assist with payroll postings and related documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors and clients regarding billing and payments.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Perform general administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and correspondence.
- Basic sales, income and property tax knowledge a plus.
- An associate degree or higher in accounting or business preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and discretely.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Must be able to pass a background, credit and drug test.
