Lisa Bertagnoli is an associate editor on Built In’s Expert Contributors team. During four decades as a journalist and writer, she has covered personal finance, business, arts and culture, philanthropy, health, and the restaurant industry. Her work has been published in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, Crain’s New York Business, AARP Bulletin and Chicago magazine. She has written profiles of cellist Yo-Yo Ma, soprano Renee Fleming, former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Citadel founder Ken Griffin, Paylocity founder Steve Sarowitz, former First Lady of Illinois Diana Rauner, and Steve Greenberg, R. Kelly’s criminal defense attorney.

Before joining Built In in February of 2021, Lisa was a staff reporter at Crain’s Chicago Business, and prior to that, freelanced for 20 years. Lisa holds dual bachelors’ degrees in journalism and American history from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in linguistics from Indiana University.
