The Windy City tech scene has been on the quieter side in recent months, however, an array of local innovators are actively fueling growth initiatives. Chicago companies in industries like fintech and artificial intelligence secured investment capital last month. Read on to find out how they plan to spend it.

#4. $3.7 million, January 22 

Backed by investors including Corazon Capital, fintech app Tandem is growing with a new round of seed funding. The company’s solution enables couples to plan, save and spend money together without a joint account. Its fresh capital will go toward launching a new financial planning feature called Goals and expanding its marketing efforts.

 

#3. $4 million, January 18

The Warrenville-based company provides a direct indexing platform for registered investment advisors. Its AI-powered solution works to help advisors develop personalized strategies for their clients. Alphathena’s $4 million raise from lead investor ETFS Capital will help the company further develop its product and expand its reach.

 

#2. $7.4 million, January 10

Chicago startup Echo Labs announced $7.4 million in funding. The company’s AI-powered platform offers transcription technology for educational media like lectures and discussions. Echo Labs’ pre-seed funding will help it launch an educational pilot program for higher education institutions. 

 

#1. $42 million, January 11

Artisight offers healthcare systems an AI-powered solution for providing virtual care and improving care quality and coordination. The company secured an oversubscribed Series B round from investors like NVIDIA to support its growing client base. Artisight’s solution currently serves almost 200 hospitals.

This list highlights the five largest funding rounds raised in January by tech companies with a headquarters in Chicago. We only include venture capital and equity raises and do not include debt or post-IPO funding rounds in this list.
