The team at tasty has a simple mission across a family of brands and services: For more people to find more success with a better trading experience.

If that mission resonates with you, Director of Marketing Compliance Nyann Yoo has a simple question: “If personal finance is important to you, why not work at a place where that is the foundation of everything?”

Yoo joined tastytrade, one of the tasty brands owned by IG Group, in 2022 and calls the move “the best decision I have ever made for myself.”

As interest in individual investment continues to expand, she sees the opportunities at tasty growing, as well.

“We are living in a world where the number of self-directed investors is growing and ever more important, and the cherry on top is that our founders are pioneers in this field who have been advocating and working for self-directed investors for many decades,” she said. 

Yoo shared her vision for her growing team and how the organization’s leaders support growth for individuals within the company and moving the industry forward.

There is nothing more exciting than growth. I am building my team because the company is growing, and I love that! Marketing compliance work is unique so I want my team to know that we can lean on each other, but also know that we need to challenge each other, too, so we think differently. Also, I want my team to build ownership and help the business move forward — not any other direction.

How do you build team culture? Why is that important for the work that you do?

This is easy for me because our company already has a great culture of openness. That is what attracted me to tastytrade. Our CEOs sit amongst us, and they are well-known leaders in the industry. You might think that they would have their own offices and want you to follow the chain of command. Nope, not at tasty companies. We are here working for the same goal — being the best broker for retail traders. In service of that goal, you should be able to talk to anyone and everyone at work to make our products better and better for our clients. I really don’t believe there is any other company whose culture is like ours.

 

How do you help your team grow their careers?

As a team leader, I am a listener and an advocate to support my team. Also, employees have the advantage of working at a smaller firm where they will get to know what someone does quickly so they can reach out to learn. I would hate to see anyone feeling stuck and not being challenged. But don’t forget, this work comes from individuals, too. Each person has to be their own advocate, work hard and push their interests.

 

What is something exciting that you are currently working on with your team?

What is exciting to me or the compliance team may not be exciting to colleagues outside of our field, but I am most excited about building a system and organization that are suitable for a team larger than just myself. When I was hired, our chief compliance officer had a vision for my role and the future team, and I am in the middle of living out that vision, so that is certainly exciting.
