Obama announced SXSW-inspired event called South by South Lawn

The White House will host an event called South by South Lawn on Oct. 3, directly inspired by Austin's mega tech event, SXSW. Similar to our city's festival, the President's will fuse ideas, entertainment and emerging technology in a day of interactive panel discussions, a student film festival and music performances. President Obama marked the first sitting president of the U.S. to attend the Austin event.  [The Hill]

 

Event discovery platform closes $1.1M seed round

Austin-based startup Vuevent, an event discovery platform, announced this week that it has closed a $1.1 million seed funding round led by private investors, all of which have previously invested. The company plans to use the new funding to grow its reach and add functionality to its mobile application. [Press Release]

 

Comcast reports opening of Austin office, estimating 80 to 90 jobs

Philadelphia-based media mogul Comcast announced this week its plans to open a development office in Austin, called the innovation and technology center. Officials said it would employ 80 to 90 workers in the beginning and work to develop technology and internet connected home devices. [Austin Business Journal]

 

19 ATI companies graduate, raising $220M collectively

On Sept. 7, The University of Texas' Austin Technology Incubator graduated 19 companies that have completed its clean energy, IT/wireless, and biosciences programs. Together, the 19 companies have raised $220 million and have recorded one IPO and two eight-figure mergers and acquisitions. [Press Release]

 

WeWork announces new Domain location

In a few months, WeWork will open its third Austin location — this time, up north at the Domain at 11801 Domain Blvd. Tours are available to checkout the new location. This WeWork will offer unique amenities that include a game lounge, arcade room, being dog friendly and an new event space. [Press Release] 

 

Continuum Analytics raised $4M of planned $10.4M

Following a $24 million Series A round in July 2015, Continuum Analytics raised $4 million of a planned $10.4 million from three investors. The Austin-based company develops big data management tools and intends to use the financing to continue its hiring and marketing expansion. [Austin Business Journal]
