The city of Barcelona is nestled into the eastern coast of the autonomous region Catalonia, known to locals as Catalunya. It brings in a wide array of tourists that can visit everything from the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, a cathedral which has been under construction since 1882, to Football Club Barcelona, a team that has been renowned for years and was home to Lionel Messi from the ages of 13 to 34.

But Barcelona isn’t just known for its culture. The city’s ICT, or information and communication technology, industry has also grown substantially. As of 2024, Catalunya had 140 tech centers, 76 percent of which are located in Barcelona. In an effort to increase technological accessibility to the regional population, the city government developed the Connectem Barcelona pilot program to address connectivity issues and lack of access to devices in parts of the city struggling with technological acquisition.

Between technological development and government support, the city has experienced significant growth. These are some of the multinational companies that are powering Barcelona’s industry.
