From film giants to trusted news outlets, the country is home to a diverse collection of companies producing content in multiple languages that’s enjoyed by audiences around the world. Here’s an overview of India’s media leaders, which are driving growth in the market.

Top Media Companies in India

Warner Bros. Discovery is a global company producing and distributing content through a family of brands that includes well-known names like HBO, CNN, TBS, TruTV, HLN and Cooking Channel. Warner Bros. Discovery maintains a significant presence in India with its India Innovation Hub, which comprises locations in Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad, and its Hyderabad Capabilities Center. 

 

Dotdash Meredith runs online and print publications that focus on topics like entertainment, food, health, beauty and travel. It also serves advertisers, offering an intent-based audience targeting tool known as D/Cipher. Dotdash Meredith hires software engineers and other technologists in India.

 

ZEE is a content media group that publishes broadcast and digital news across regional, national and global channels. The company also produces and distributes movies, publishes music and operates live entertainment and theater events. Since bringing the first private satellite television channel to India in 1992, ZEE has grown its reach to over 1 billion viewers globally.

 

Founded as a single magazine title in the 1970s, India Today is now a multichannel media group that publishes content across print, radio, television, digital and social media platforms. It broadcasts international and domestic news, as well as both live and programmed television. The original magazine still goes to print, with coverage of sports, entertainment, tech and business news. 

 

Balaji Telefilms produces Indian television across genres, including soap operas, reality TV, game shows, nonfiction programming and dramatic series. The company also creates digital B2B and B2C content and produces commissioned programs, which it sells as serial shows to other channels, including Star Plus, Colors and Zee TV.

 

New Delhi Television, known as NDTV, delivers broadcast and digital news. The company, known for being the first 24/7 news outlet in India, operates NDTV India, a Hindi channel, and NDTV 24x7, an English channel. NDTV also provides digital news regarding local and regional issues in topic areas such as education and elections.

 

Saregama is a multimedia firm, which began as a music label and today publishes music, films and television content. Its serial shows have run on Netflix and HotStar, and the company leverages its experience in music production to create original scores for its films. Saregama’s retail arm sells a pre-loaded music device called Carvaan, which looks like a retro radio and integrates with home Wi-Fi systems.
