Korean automotive supplier Hyundai Mobis recently announced its plans to establish a software research branch in Bengaluru. The move builds on the company’s research and development hub in Hyderabad and serves to further diversify its R&D operations.

Hyundai Mobis’ new hub will specialize in infotainment software, enabling the company to add high-value electronic components to vehicles. These will be incorporated into the mid-to-large-sized models that are increasing in demand within the Indian automotive market. Additionally, the Bengaluru branch will contribute to a more flexible R&D strategy as it will focus on areas closely linked to hardware, like foundational frameworks for software functionality.

Bengaluru’s ecosystem of global IT companies, startups and research institutions made it a prime location for Hyundai Mobis’ expansion. The new research base will be tailored to regional characteristics as it aims to attract local software engineering talent. This supports the company’s dense customer base in Bengaluru, giving it a more competive edge to respond to regional customer requests quickly.
