Hi! Just wanted to share an awesome event going on this Saturday that I led the organization of. It is called Global Day of Coderetreat. It is a day-long, hands-on development training workshop called "Coderetreat" that is having its second annual "Global Day."
We have > 3500 software developers in > 150 locations in > 150 cities in > 40 countries in 20 different timezones (including Chicago at 8th Light) all doing the same workshop on December 8th. They'll be having video calls between cities, and spending the day practicing to become better at the craft of software development.
I'm especially proud, as I'm one of the founders/inventors of the Coderetreat workshop and have spent the past 4 years spreading it around the world. It happens somewhere in the world almost every weekend, and December 8th (this Saturday) is our second annual "Let's All Do It On The Same Day!" event. :)
You can find more information at https://globalday.coderetreat.org/ You can also track the #gdcr12 and #coderetreat hashtags to see all the buzz going around the world!
As for me, I'm flying to Sydney, Australia, to run one of the first events of the day, then I'm hopping a 6pm flight that lands in Honolulu, Hawaii, at 645am the same day to faciliate the last event of the day. Time Travel thanks to the International Date Line!
As a teaser, check out this picture of our google map showing all the cities that are holding an event!
