This will be my first blog entry having started Beginner's HTML/CSS at The Starter League with Shay Howe.
My HTML/CSS background goes something like this:
1996/1997 : Learn what a GIF is and put it on a grey 'web-page'
2000-2003 : Stare blankly at 'code' in Dreamweaver and be thankful I have something to click on.
2005-2007 : Edit this foreign language called HTML semi-regularly and change some colors with CSS........in Dreamweaver.
2010-2011 : Work with a start-up to 'clean-up code' ( #IhaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing ).
2011-4 Weeks Ago : Read through incredibly dry books and feel very alone/lost.
It truly is amazing how far you can go in just 3 weeks with a kick-ass community, a 'solid' instructer, and a lot of hard work. I now truly feel confident enough to say that I could put together a decent looking, stable website, and throw it out there on the big world wide scary place called the internet.
The Starter League has honestly been all it's cracked up to be so far! Every single instructor, assistant, and special guest has been beyond helpful and friendly. I am extremely happy with the people I've met and cannot wait to ‘hack’ alongside more that I haven’t yet met. Shay makes it much easier to learn this stuff than I could have ever imagined; don’t let me fool you though: it still all takes a tremendous amount of work. If you’re thinking about applying, just do it, but make sure you’re ready to work hard and plow through some challenges.
