Expel, a Herndon-based cybersecurity company, announced Monday a new partnership with Armis, a California unified asset intelligence platform. Together, the companies hope to help other enterprises with their connected assets. This includes protecting managed and unmanaged assets across IT, cloud, IoT devices and operational technology.

Connected assets, those that integrate operational technology with IT, are becoming a more popular method of creating deeper understandings of a company’s physical and digital assets. However, more connections between assets also mean more entry points for nefarious cyber attacks.

What Expel and Armis hope to do with this new partnership is protect those areas of access, allowing organizations to simultaneously have comprehensive overviews of their assets while keeping them secure by monitoring devices in real-time and detecting anomalies.

“Our partnership with Armis is directly aligned with our goal of continuously improving our solutions to meet the changing needs of our customers,” Expel co-founder and CEO Dave Merkel said in a statement. “We expect the combined efforts of Expel and Armis will have a tremendous impact on the security strategies of organizations using IoT technology.”

This partnership comes after a year of growth for Expel. Last November, the company reached unicorn status after a $140.3 million Series E funding round. Expel was also recognized by Deloitte as the 18th fastest growing tech company in the U.S. on the 2021 Technology Fast 500 List.
