Costco Wholesale plans to establish an Indian technology center in Hyderabad, where the retail giant will employ 1,000 people, according to reporting by Reuters.
The company is known for operating a large network of stores that sell everything from bulk grocery items to home appliances, and its new Indian presence is expected to focus on technology and research operations in addition to collaborating with Costco’s global teams. The Reuters story also noted Costco aims to scale up its initial 1,000-person technology center workforce.
Costco is the latest in a growing lineup of international enterprises that are setting up global capability centers in India. A 2024 Nasscom-Zinnov report put the number of GCCs throughout the country at 1,700 and estimated that headcount at these innovation hubs could hit 2.5 million by 2030.
