Practical Security Problems and Solutions, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.

Join Austin DevOps on Monday night at Rackspace for food from Freebirds and a lively discussion covering three tech-focused topics. Those topics include “AWS Role Based Security” by Richard Boyd of Bright Health, “Transform your Security Practices with DevOps” by Paul Czarkowski of Pivotal, and “Being Productive with InSpec” by JJ of Chef Software.

 

2x: An Evening of Storytelling, brought to you by The Hustle, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.

The Hustle presents An Evening of Storytelling this Tuesday at Zach Theater. The event will feature local women who will speak, inspire and empower through their stories for 10 minutes each. A few of the speakers include: Amber Atkins, lead design strategist at IBM and co-founder of Austin Design Week; Deb Gabor, CEO of Sol Marketing; Leigh Christie, SVP of global technology and innovation at Austin Chamber; and Denise Hernandez, co-founder of Hustle for the Cause.

 

Edtech Austin presents Learning by Making with pi-top, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Edtech Austin invites you to join them on Wednesday for a hands-on learning workshop with pi-top, a an edtech startup that helps users build and understand their own Raspberry Pi-powered laptops. The evening will include a short presentation, a one-hour physical computing workshop using Raspberry Pi, Python and electronics, a Q&A, and informal networking to close out the event.

 

Three Pillars of a Great People Strategy: Recruiting, Rewards and Engagement, Aug. 16 at 11:30 a.m.

Women@Austin will host a lunch roundtable on Thursday at Capital Factory featuring Lori Knowlton, chief people officer of Silicon Labs. Knowlton will discuss recruiting, rewards and engagement efforts that can impact teams of all sizes. Bring your questions and ideas to share with a room full of like-minded women.

 

User-Palooza Startup Event on 6th Street, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.

Head to Proof HQ on East 6th Street this Thursday night for its first User-Palooza Startup Event. The evening will feature live music, booze, tacos and the chance for startups and users to come together for product testing and feedback.
