Friday might be the end of the work week, but in tech that doesn’t necessarily equate to an easy day or early stop.

These five Austin startups spice up their Fridays with fun outings, lunches, and more to celebrate another week of hard work and gear up for a couple of days off.

TrendKite has a ritual known as the “TrendKite Rage Hat,” a rite of passage for individuals who earn a spot on the TrendKite team. However, despite the implications that the team likes to rage, they’ve taken Fridays in a different direction.

Over Friday Bytes and Bites, the company provides munchies alongside important company updates or trainings to help each employee strengthen their skills.

HotSchedules prides itself on the company's close-knit, family-like work environment where they take care of one another, similar to the service industry that they support.

It’s only fitting that every Friday the team enjoys a company-sponsored pizza party in addition to their catered lunch program.

uShip’s startup culture has acted as a model for many other area startups. Even after the company passed the 200-employee mark, they continued on with workplace traditions they shared as a small, young-stage company.

One of their most well-known events is First Fridays, scheduled the first Friday of every month, and inspired by Austin’s First Thursday event on South Congress Avenue. They've hosted company-wide river floats down the Guadalupe River, city scavenger hunts, or volunteered at a local organization in the past.

Helping online merchants ship packages of all sizes is ShipStation’s mission.

Their casual work office, located off North Lamar, offers a stocked kitchen, at least one catered lunch per week for the team, and Friday beers for all to relax a bit before heading home.

World First, the company that securely moves money around the world through its foreign currency exchange solutions, loves to celebrate big company wins and has a work environment where open dialogue is encouraged.

Their Austin employees frequently host team nights while enjoying bi-annual company-wide parties and free breakfasts. On Fridays, they have a tradition of filling up the fridge with adult refreshments to wind down a bit.
