Anthropic is advancing its agentic coding tool with a new acquisition. The company expanded its technology stack with the addition of Bun, an open-source JavaScript runtime that has become a key piece of infrastructure for AI-led software engineering. The move will ensure developers using Claude Code experience faster performance, better stability and new capabilities.

Bun is a comprehensive toolkit that combines a runtime, package manager, bundler and test runner to help developers build and test their applications quickly. The acquisition builds on an existing partnership wherein Bun has significantly contributed to the timely execution of the Claude Code team and driven the launch of Claude Code’s native installer. This deal will enable Anthropic to build enhanced workflows into Claude Code.

“Bun represents exactly the kind of technical excellence we want to bring into Anthropic,” Mike Krieger, Anthropic’s CPO, said in a statement. “Claude Code reached $1 billion in run-rate revenue in only six months, and bringing the Bun team into Anthropic means we can build the infrastructure to compound that momentum and keep pace with the exponential growth in AI adoption.”
