Fal, a generative media infrastructure platform based in San Francisco, has announced a $140 million Series D funding round, with participation from a combination of new and existing investors, including Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins and NVIDIA.

In a blog post, Fal said that the funding will enable it to scale its platform globally and deliver new capabilities for generative AI inference, especially for media, making AI more accessible and cost effective for developers building creative tools across video, audio, images and other multimodal models.

According to Fal, it has developed some of the fastest inference systems for models like SDXL and Whisper, and it now supports hundreds of millions of users. The company announced plans to expand its team across engineering, product, design, go-to-market and operations.
