Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manage staff, creating a strong team atmosphere. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and provide guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hire, evaluate and counsel personnel. Follow corporate performance management procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Set performance standards, review performance, provide feedback, and recommend wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

2. Regularly provides feedback and coaching to Advisors. Develops, implements, and monitors goals and action plans for Advisors. Reviews Advisor performance and identifies trends, suggests improvements, and provides analysis/feedback to Advisor. Demonstrates and advocates change leadership for team in rapidly evolving business.

3. Oversees the management and development of the book of business strategy for managed clients with assets primarily within the UHNW range of $5-15m. Coaches Advisors to develop strategies to deepen client relationships with the Advisor and with Vanguard as evidenced by retention, net new assets, and referrals. Works with team to develop and implement comprehensive financial planning strategies that incorporate the complex tax and estate planning needs of this client demographic.

4. Develops and influences departmental policies and procedures to evolve Personal Advisor strategy and meet business needs. Works closely with other members of management to develop and implement strategic, staffing and operational plans. Participates in the development of short and long range strategies and goals for the department.

5. Develops close working relationships with all appropriate stakeholders both within and outside of the department to meet Vanguard business requirements and partners with segment partners to define and deliver upon shared goals.

6. Provides technical support to team and business in areas of financial planning. Supports Advisors in analyzing and resolving client planning issues and developing solutions.

7. Participates in annual business planning and long-term strategic planning for the department.

8. Builds and maintains understanding of financial planning, capital markets, and the financial services industry. Responds quickly to industry and internal developments. Assesses what should be communicated to the department, and does so in a timely, accurate and effective manner. Determines the most appropriate method of communication, given the nature of the content.

9. Positions oneself and develops a reputation as one of the primary leaders within the Advice management team both within the business unit and throughout the Vanguard organization.

10. Maintains an in-depth understanding of compliance, regulatory and departmental policies and procedures.

11. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience, advanced degree preferred.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP License) preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of related experience, including supervision of others
  • Series 7, 63, 66 and 24 licenses or ability to obtain within 120 days.
  • Extensive knowledge of Vanguard investment offerings and Vanguard methodology
  • Strong knowledge of the competitive environment preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and personnel development skills
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities and execute solutions both strategically and tactically
  • Proven ability to develop innovative solutions to complex client situations
  • Proven ability to successfully develop strong working relationships with staff and management within Vanguard
