Job Description

Gilead Sciences is currently seeking a Finance Manager to join the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing (PDM) Finance team.

This position reports to the Senior Director in PDM Finance.

The Finance Manager will be a key member of the FP&A team supporting the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing (PDM) organization and will be based in Foster City, CA. The individual will be responsible for partnering with the Manufacturing Operations organization in Foster City and providing decision support and analytics, drive the forecasting and budgeting process, developing management reporting packages, and supporting process improvement initiatives. The individual should also have the executive presence to interact with Senior Management in both Finance and PDM.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

Provide financial support to PDM organization including but not limited to the following:

  • Establishes strong business partnerships within the Manufacturing Operations organization to provide comprehensive financial support and analytics for key strategic initiatives as well as day-to-day tactical operations.
  • Leads the forecast planning process for operating expenses, capital expenses and headcount. Coordinate and communicate deliverables and timelines, effectively collaborate with business partners to develop budget forecasts and presentations for senior management.
  • Proactively partners with the business to provide decision support and contribute to operational excellence in areas including contract manufacturing, inventory management, expense and resource management, contract compliance and audit support.
  • Leads monthly and quarterly close processes including expense accruals management, capital expense tracking, budget variance commentary and compliance requirements. Leads planning, development and delivery of accurate and timely management reporting of monthly financial performance.
  • Drives development of meaningful financial analyses and creates effective presentations and reporting to communicate insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Proactively recommends process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our reporting and analysis. Develop subject matter expertise on financial systems and processes. Develop new reporting capabilities to monitor key performance metrics.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with internal controls, company policies and procedures including the Worldwide Controller's Policies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS or BA is required, and an MBA or CPA is strongly preferred.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in FP&A, having held positions of increasing scope and responsibility. 4+ years of experience with an MBA degree.
  • Strong analytical skills and significant knowledge and understanding of US GAAP is required.
  • Experience with project reporting, operational accounting and management reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SAP and SAC-P is preferred.
  • Prior experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry and/or in high-growth multi-national organizations is a plus.

The salary range for this position is: $133,280.00 - $172,480.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
