The Position

Genentech, Inc. seeks a Technical Development Engineer in its South San Francisco, California location.

Duties: Within global biotechnology company, produce, store, dispense and inventory materials for global production activities. Provide samples to Quality Control to support release and registration, transfer to manufacturing/production sites for use and storage and prepare for research and development activities. Maintain equipment and the environment in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) requirements and Roche corporate standards. As appropriate, contribute to the development of new technologies that enhance assessment tools and improve production. Identify and solve technical issues, perform process development experiments and evaluate and implement new technology/instrumentation based on scientific literature and industry trends. Act as a Global Technical Research & Development representative to other Pharma Technical teams. Play a role in departmental or other special projects. May assist in on-boarding and training new members. Works independently within guidelines and policies, and receives minimal guidance. Actively working in a bioprocess development environment in downstream processing of therapeutic antibodies, which includes, execution of experiments, developing new technologies, using standard and innovative techniques to purify proteins (Chromatography, filtration, use of robotic tools to understand molecule-specific behaviors during purification processes), as well as analytical techniques and analytical skills to interpret results. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provides functional guidance.

Education and experience required: Master's in Chemical Engineer, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Science, Pharmaceutical Science or closely related field and one (1) year of experience in job offered or related position in biochemistry industry.

Special Requirements: Must have 6 months of experience with each of the following:

  • Chromatography;
  • Spectroscopy;
  • Cell culture;
  • Tangential flow filtration and Ultrafiltration/Diafiltration;
  • Advanced statistical skills for data analysis of biochemical experiments;
  • Scale up/transfer of small scale purification processes;
  • Design of Experiment.

Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of California $103,800 to $143,400 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
