Why Trusting Yourself Can Lead to Huge Success

The other day I was on a coaching call with a brilliant client that said, “I just needed to prove that I could trust myself.” Whoa Nelly, her really comment hit home. All of the sudden it felt like our roles were flipped, and she was coaching me. Her comment held so much power and truth that it moved me to tears. Literally.

What does it mean to trust yourself? Trust means knowing that you can follow through with whatever you want in your life. For one client it meant eating a clean diet and for another client it meant opening up her heart to love. Just this morning, for me, trust looked like this: getting up early to take care of my pet, eat a healthy meal and go for a run. After that, I trusted myself to be honest with my coach, write a relatable blog post and coach from a place of truth. All of this trust was happening in my life before 11:00 a.m. Our entire lives are built around trusting ourselves and our innate intuition.

What would happen if we did not trust ourselves? Over time, we set standards for ourselves and when we do not meet those, we tell ourselves that we are not good enough. Below that thought comes a more painful one, “I cannot be trusted.” Then we choose to react to that lack of trust. I know what it looks like when my own trust gets kicked to the curb. I want to cover myself up in blankets and hide on the couch. I turn off my phone and disconnect from my world. It is freaking painful. I know because I have had days when trust is missing, doubt takes over and my couch has a permanent Betsy indent.

Everyone has their own version of trust and mistrust in their lives. It is your choice to decide which one will receive more power. “As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live,” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Start trusting yourself and see how your world comes to life.

My challenge for you is to make a list of ways you have had to trust yourself this morning. What do those things show you about your life? Please list those off in the comment section below and I will respond with some insight.
