I just got back from PubCon. For 3 days straight I was hammered with cutting-edge digital marketing strategies, tactics, and data from the top search engine marketers in the world.

Google made some major changes to their search engine algorithms in 2013, with mixed reactions from the SEO industry. Unprecedented growth in mobile search, 540 Million Google+ users, and the semantic web are changing the nature of search engine optimization. With many people in 2013 proclaming "SEO is dead," the topic on my mind after the conference was "What is the New SEO?"

Here are my takeaways:

  • Semantic Markup ala. Schema, RDFa, Microdata, etc.
  • Google+ Integration
  • Author Rank
  • Environmental Linking
  • Open Graph, Twitter Cards, etc.
  • Disavow Backlinks
  • Natural Link Building
  • Performance
  • and last but not least... Great Content!
