This is the first series of posts in what will be a monthly series of Q&A sessions with the founders of companies presenting at Denver New Tech. This month's Denver New Tech was on Thursday, February 21 at 7:00pm at Galvanize. For more information on the event, check the event posting or visit the BDNT website.

Savor.ly, a "social recipe box," is one of the five companies presenting at BDNT tonight. Built in Denver caught up with Savorly's founder Aaron White to get the scoop.

What’s the story behind Savorly?

We allow everyday cooks to showcase, manage and grow their recipes. I have a love for food and experimenting in the kitchen. I realized at a party around Thanksgiving that I had started collecting recipes for stuff my friends were making and that they were all in various formats: emails, napkins, scrap paper and random photos on my phone. This was all unmanageable and I had lost a few of the recipes I was looking forward to making and experimenting with.

Sharing and discovering a recipe is truly a social experience, and there had to be a better way to do this. I wanted to focus on easily sharing a recipe, providing the ability to adapt a recipe from someone else (which we called 'forking'). Everything is just growing out of that basic theme that 'recipes are social'.

When were you founded/started?

I've been working on the idea for a few years and started development of an alpha in August of 2012. I took the alpha to Startup Weekend Denver 4 where I met my co-founder, Ryan, and we've been working on getting a solid beta ever since.

What has the Savor.ly team been up to lately?

We had the alpha working at the end of Startup Weekend, which was a huge accomplishment. Ryan and I actually re-wrote the entire app in a weekend and we launched a private beta in mid-December. We have a couple hundred users at this point. We're working on getting some features released at the moment and once we're in a good place we plan on opening up the doors and telling the world.

We're looking for people passionate about food and drinks in all forms & fashions. We think we have some great ideas on how to make Savorly pretty kickass and want to connect with as many foodies as possible.
