Calling all data scientists: SMU study ranks Boston as a competitor to Silicon Valley
A study out of Southern Methodist University compared data science opportunities across U.S. tech hubs and found that Silicon Valley isn’t the only place for workers in that field. The report found that students earning master’s degrees in data science can find promising careers in a variety of industries and places such as Austin, Boston, Denver, Seattle and Washington D.C. ‘Tech gives back day’ kicks off with 9,000 hours of volunteering
On “Tech Gives Back” day, more than 1,500 of Boston tech scene’s top startups are gathering together to give back to local nonprofits. Teams both small and large (as well as individuals) are donating their time across over 50 volunteer sites on October 20, volunteering over 9,000 hours of service in one day. WeWork to expand to Cambridge
WeWork announced its plans to expand to Cambridge’s Central Square this week. The venture-backed co-working space said that its new digs will be located at 625 Massachusetts Avenue near Harvard University and MIT. The space will have about 550 desks and will open early next year. WeWork currently operates two co-working spaces in Boston – one in Fort Point and one at South Station. [The Boston Globe]
Nutonian and Autodesk team up to offer IoT analytics
Software company Autodesk announced this week it would be partnering with Nutonian, the machine intelligence company, to embed Nutonian’s artificial intelligence (A.I.) modeling engine Eureqa into its services. This A.I. engine will be used to interpret IoT data and maximize business outcomes for companies using Autodesk. [BusinessWire]
Startup Institute now offers a part-time program for full-time employees
Startup Institute, a Boston-based organization that helps professionals develop innovation skills, announced this week that it would begin offering full-time workers a new part-time program. Before, the Startup Institute provided just a full-time program and fundamental classes, but hopes the new offering will give full-time workers the chance to pivot their career. [BostInno]
